Default HSUS/PETA say kill "vick" dogs, Feds give charge to ASPCA & BF Rep.

in email I received:

Best Friends and the Michael Vick dogs
Now that the dogs who were confiscated in the Michael Vick dog-fighting case are about to be released from legal custody as evidence, Best Friends members are asking what we're doing to insure that the victims of this terrible abuse won't simply be killed.
When Vick was arrested, and the dogs were taken to local shelters, Best Friends wrote to the federal authorities and offered to take charge of all the dogs, conduct assessments that would give benefit of doubt to the dogs, place as many as possible in specialized care with our training partners and other expert caregivers, and bring any others who had any potential quality of life to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary for special care.

The federal authorities have now invited the ASPCA to take charge of the dogs and organize the assessments.
---------------------
From BF site below couple paragraphs:

The ASPCA has invited Best Friends to send one person to “contribute to the observations and options related to disposition.”..............

“People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and the Humane Society of the United States recommended euthanasia as the only option for dogs trained to fight.”.............

Food for thought: "Routine farming practices are so abusive that they would warrant felony animal cruelty charges were they done to cats or dogs."

I think if they are found to be of sound mind then they should be given a second chance at life.

I think PETA should keep their big fat noses out of it. If they had their way no one would own any dogs, cats or horses and they would euthanise all the ones that people own now under the premises that they could not survive in the wild ( how stupid ). They are a really screwed up org.

Please. This is going to raise my blood pressure to a dangerous level.
Ms Newkirk has the elimination of all pit bulls on her personal agenda and this is nothing more than a sham opportunity for her and her organization to try to find a little spot for themselves in the media spotlight created by the Vick scandal.
This goes back to her days an an animal control officer.

PETA will use anything to get attention. I really dislike them.

The HSUS states they are against BSL on their website...however you can find letters online where the HSUS has written local municipalities encouraging BSL.

The newest trick… The HSUS has been mass emailing people since the start of to Vick situation. One email state to the effect “help the HSUS take care of the dogs taken from Vick.” In all actuality those dogs HAVE NEVER been in the possession of the HSUS.

SCAMMERS! SHAME ON YOU HSUS!!!!

Wink

i agree, somewhat with peta. (sry)
if these animals don't pass temperment tests, they need to be put down.
however, they need to be placed into homes (which have been highly screened). i understand that this situation is touchy, and i agree that enough animals have been killed. we need to save who we can. however, think of it this way... these animals might be put down, but at least they aren't fighting each other to death, and being drowned and hung as they cling onto life. this is a much more humane way, no matter what the circumstances.

peta does do some good work...

Britany did you read either of the links in Skunkstripes post?

I can provide more...

Look up the difference between an Animal Rights Organization and an Animal Welfare Organization... there is a big difference.

IMO PETA paints a pretty picture over their an ugly adenda to fool people.
