Why did you choose the Miki? I heard they were developed in the early 80's. Why is there so much reference to German Lines? Seems from what I read on the site you provided than they are not true Miki lines.

I found them listed on puppy for sale sites and even from the link you provided the price of these puppy start at $2000. That price comes with a spay/nueter contract. edited to add additional info I found.
Country of Origin: There are different theories as to the origin of the breed and standards for the breed differ from club to club. Some say the breed originated in Asia. Others say the breed originated in the U.S.A.

Do you know if there is any truth to the above statement?
Thank you for supplying us with your knowledge of the breed. I am sure we will all find this thread to be very imformative

I am happy to day that the Mi-ki will be in the Gallary in the "DOG FANCY" magazine in the September issue, so any one interested in the breed will be able to read about this lovely breed. Thank you for taking and interest in this sweet breed.

From what I can see there is not a uniform standard set yet.
The Mi-ki, as a breed, has been split between a few clubs. The clubs are setting their own standards and the dog is becoming very different from club to club even though they all still have the mi-ki name

Can you share your own experience with the breed? I can do tons of on line research but you never get a true feel for any breed without talking to true owners.

A mi-ki is a very sweet and exceptionally intelligent breed, many of it's characteristics are those of a cat. they wash them selves like a cat, they like to lay on the top of the couch, they most def. like to sleep with you ,they like to be with you and will follow you were ever you go and lite when you do as close as they can to you,The nice thing that I find about Maggie is she LOVES people..Oh and they love other animals. My Cockatiel will land right next to Maggie and she just watches him with her little head turning from side to side.I Never owned toys before, always been a large breed lover.,But there is much to be said for the toys. They have hair, not fur so they are said to be nonallergic. My daughter has bad allergies and can put Maggie right to her face with out any allergic reactions. The down side is they need to be brushed like any long coated dog.

It seems IMO most toy breeds are harder to housetrain does that hold true with the mi-ki? My Chihuahua likes to lay on the back of the sofa. I think that is true with most of the toy breeds. What breed in the background of the Mi-ki gives it the cat like characteristics?

With the difference in breed standards among the different clubs, how did you personally decide what club to go with?

In my own experience even though not always quality I follow the AKC as a more trusted registry than that of the CKC (continental) the APRI etc. Which is why I asked how you made your choice among the different clubs.

Thank you for sharing your breed with us.

I'm curious to know what the breeders are doing to create a new breed. To be recognized as a breed, there are many steps that must be accomplished for breed creation.

I have a bunch of questions as I've watched several breeds of cats go from a "cute idea" (mixed breeds) to fully established breeds in CFA. I know there are similar requirements in AKC and other registries, so I'm curious where these dogs stand in the progression of what it takes to attain breed recognition.

Toward what association(s) are these breeders working for acceptance of a new breed? What are the requirements of breeding within this American Miki Association?

How many breeders are working within the guidelines to create a new breed & doing all the proper documentation toward that goal? Are all groups of breeders working together on the same goal or are there other groups also working with breed creation? How many people are breeding what they're calling Mikis by simply mix-breeding?
