Default Poor Bonnie

I haven't taken Bonnie into the arena lately as it has been so hot to leave her in the Van while I work with Kris. Today, since it has cooled down (only 5C this morning and never much over 10C) I took her with me.

I took her into the arena and did a little heeling, a few tunnels and over a 6 inch jump and then was just standing around with her. That German Shepherd that went after her a while back when she got loose and ran up to him, was training at the other end of the arena. I had my back turned and all of a sudden he raced across the arena and jumped on Bonnie. I yelled at him and managed to get him off her. He didn't seem to do any physical damage (probably a little bruised) but it sure scared her.

She crawled on her belly and hid behind me when he was taking the German Shepherd out of the arena and had to pass near me. Finally got her to take some treats and let her play with the Rottie that she likes for a few minutes, then all she wanted was to go out and get in the Van. I hope it is not going to ruin her confidence around other dogs.

Kyllobernese this now needs bringing to the attention of the GS owner and the organiser/trainer of the event. next time it could be worse Glad Kris managed to play with another dog after so no damage done but it could have been worse!

Poor Bonnie. It was good that she would play with her friend the Rottie. Hopefully since she would play with the Rottie, she won't be fearful of dogs other than that particular German Shepherd. I will say that Bonnie's experience is why I am fearful of taking my dogs places where other dogs are off lead. I don't blame the dogs...It's the owners who are at fault.

I am a little put off that the owner of this dog isn't more proactive about his behavior when you and Bonnie are there. The dog has gone after Bonnie before and you would think that someone who puts time and effort into working with their dog would be more alert and more closely monitoring him when Bonnie is there. This is supposed to be a fun and learning event for Bonnie too.

Unfortunately the owner of the Shepherd us also in charge of the arena. If it was anybody else's dog, they would have been told to leave a long time ago. I feel sorry for the owner as he has worked really hard on the dog but it is from a line of bad natured Shepherds so probably will never be safe around other dogs. He has it's CD and CDX and is working on it's Utility now. I will just have to be more careful with Bonnie and not take her in when he has the dog in the arena.

Wow, that's some pretty bad luck, both that the dog is owned by the person in charge of the arena and that it comes from a bad line. Hopefully Bonnie will still be fine around the arena, maybe take them there during a less busy time if she seems stressed next time you go.

The only other way round this is to ask the owner what day(s) do they not train thier dog at the class. it does seem rather strange they aren't proactively keeping their dog from doing what it does?? it could have been a lot worse for both Kris and the GS.

Well I was glad to see that he left the German Shepherd in his truck till everybody was through training and had put their dogs away before he brought the Shepherd in. There was just him and the other Shepherd which are both doing Utility practice.

I had Bonnie with me but just brought Kris into the arena today. Thought I would give Bonnie a little time to recover so just walked her outside and gave the two of them a good run on the trails when we were finished. Got warm again and no rain today.
