Well to be honest Rome wasn't built in a day So 1. it's worth waiting for the right one to come along! 2. And from reputable breeder too 3. This might mean a slightly longer car journey to get one Patience is a virtue or good things come to those who wait!!! Good luck

Applesmom, I went straight back to the site right after you warned me the first time. I saw that it was newly disabled, so I gather you were the one who reported it. But how did you know that the seller had several ads?

(I actually wrote to the seller earlier, but she still hasn't replied.)

I've learned a lot through this thread. Thanks. Since I'm a first-timer, this is all very helpful for me! I just don't know enough yet to be able to spot suspicious sites.

Too bad about this one. Not only was it lots more affordable, but it was within driving distance!

So what would be the closest to a Bolognese ... a Coton? A Havanese? Something else?

The ad was already disabled by the time I got to it. I would imagine that in order to sucessfully report an ad on that web site, an individual would be required to provide actual proof of wrong doing rather than suspicion.

The fact that they allow individuals to place 10 or more ads for different breeds IMO indicates that puppy mills are welcome to advertise with them.

On each ad there is a link that says something to the effect of, see more ads by this person. I clicked on that link and the other ads popped up.

To look for a breed of similar characteristics I'd suggest that you go to the AKC website and look at the toy, miscellaneous and non sporting breed groups. Click on any of the breeds that appeal to you and it should provide you with a link to the standard including temperament. It should also provide you with a link to the parent club which can in turn provide information on rescues for that breed. That might sound complicated but it really isn't--it just takes a litte time.

AKC Breeds by Group - Non-Sporting Group
AKC Breeds by Group - Toy Group
AKC Breeds by Group - Miscellaneous Class

A well trained dog will make no attempt to share your lunch.

He'll just make you feel guilty while you're eating it.
