Default Black dogs photographs to reduce "black dog syndrome" in adoptions

"Photographer Fred Levy may have found his most photogenic subjects yet.

The 44-year-old from Maynard, Mass., recently launched the Black Dogs Project, a photo series that photographs black dogs against a dark background. The initiative tells the story of the difficulties these dogs face when waiting to be adopted."

The photos are wonderful, his cause is as well. Rest of article:

With some photography experience, I must say that these photos are excellent and not easily done.

Our first dog was black. Lucy. She stood out at the shelter because she wasn't barking. We still accidentally call Rascal Lucy sometimes. The two dogs couldn't be more different personality wise!

Great photos! Don't understand why people feel as they do about black dogs in shelters, but they do. Once every year, Dunny's previous shelter has a special month with reduced adoption fees for black dogs . Dunny sat in the shelter from 6 months old until we adopted him at 11 months. Sorry he had to wait those 5 long months, but so glad he was there for us.

I'm sure Dunny feels it was worth it. They are all gorgeous dogs in those photographs.

Sadly, the same thing happens with black cats. I have no idea why someone would pass up a black dog or black cat. They are stunning.
