Default The "blizzard"

Our "blizzard" came through last night. It wasn't as bad as I expected but that still doesn't mean I liked it at all. Most things shut down in advance of its approach.. even the Long Island Expressway which is our main artery into NYC and unheard of. There was about 8-10 inches of snow where I live but the wind was the part I was most concerned about. I sure didn't want to lose power again and thankfully, we didn't. It's only about 12 degrees right now (brrr!) and though the roads are plowed it's too slippery and cold to go for a walk. "Someone" had to make do with fifteen minutes of snow investigation in front of the house. Tomorrow, if it's a little warmer, she will get her chance to go nuts in it in the back yard. I am so thankful for hot cocoa and warm socks

Our roads are really icy right now except on the highway where they put more sand and ice melt. I don't go anywhere if I don't have to. I have had to have my driveway cleared more often already than I did the whole of last winter.

We are having a drop-in Agility class on Sunday as our weather has stayed around zero the past little while. Looking forward to it.

Janice and Kyllobernese, be careful on the road if you have to get out! Cheynie looks so cute in her coat. They showed video of the snow in Long Island on the news this morning. Glad it wasn't as bad as you expected, but to a southerner, it sure looked like a lot of snow. Hot cocoa and warm socks sound like just the right "medicine" for such cold weather. Stay warm!

Glad you power stayed on. I hear it was so cold that the snow was very light so didn't break trees and lines.
Have other friends on that side of the river who also said the wind was the worst part...kept blowing the snow back to where they just cleared.
Nice coat for Cheynie.

I think I'd be staying at home as much as possible too. Cheynie's coat looks really comfortable and warm. Hope your temperatures warm up and she doesn't need it too long.

We must have pics of her going mad in the snow when she gets the chance

Well her backyard fun doesn't look like it is going to be today.. it is sooo cold out there. I took her to "go" and she was only out for about five minutes. I felt so bad, she kept lifting her back paws up; I tried to hand-warm them just enough to let her take care of business and then brought her right back in. She does have boots, Jeanne, but they are the disposable ones. They are really just to keep salt and chemicals off and don't provide any warmth. Chessie's extra-large muttluks are way too big for her and I wanted to wait until she was finished growing until I invested in a pair for her.

Well I understand! Can you wrap some flannel around under the disposable one to insulate a bit?

That's a good idea, I might give it a try if I can get her to stay still... it's probably a good use for all the dish towels she has chewed up!

Janice, we got 9.5 inches. With the wind chill factor, we reached -1. I have no idea how Harley and Scooter are holding it in. The 30 mph winds are the worst! I shoveled twice, but just could not keep up with all the snow. Harley loves the cold and snow, but he's not liking much this year. Both dogs will only go out long enough to do business, and then come right back in. It's just way to cold out there for any animal..
