Default The Traveling Tigger

So my 1 year old border collie is having quite the adventure of his life! We're in Utah for the month, drove here from California. This dog amazes me...He's so well behaved, his recall is great, his stay is perfect, his manners there, he's extremely well potty trained, adaptable, and he'll do whatever I ask him to do because he knows I won't ask him to do something that will hurt him. I'm a bit unsure why I didn't get a border collie a loooong time ago! Just thought I'd share some pics of his adventure so far

Taking a nap at one of the local parks

Walking through the creek! This is his very first experience with a creek and I think he likes it. I've never had a dog like water before

He loves to chew on and play with sticks. So of course, out in the park and around the creek, there's sticks galore. He found this rather large one to play with; my boyfriend was throwing it for him.

We had to stay in a hotel/motel a few nights. Here's what Tigger thought of that

We also camped a couple nights

And for some reason, Tigger was fascinated by this skunk beetle. Maybe because it smelled funny? It's too bad I couldn't get a pic or video of him frolicking along the creek chasing a big yellow swallowtail butterfly lol

Great pictures! I'm in Utah, lots of fun activities to do with dogs! {{Also you don't have to worry about ticks/fleas-unless you're in the mountains, then you have to worry about ticks!}}

*laughs* I went to California with my dog last year and she thought the hotel we were staying in was her new home! Sometimes I think dogs like hotels more then humans do

Looks like a great dog

Border collies are almost as neat as Aussies.
When I did the snake training we stayed a motel but Sadie didn't like it. She didn't do anything bad...just wanted to leave cuz it was borrrrring.

Is he still howling?

I love the west because many of those little mountain towns are very dog friendly. I just came back from Frisco/Dillon, Colorado. I wasn't able to take my dog unfortunately.
I love border collies. It was just by chance that I ended up with Frodo, and he appears to have some border collie in him, so at least I have gotten to experience that a little bit.

Haha yes we keep him tied up alright I've been pleased with his recall and his natural desire to stay close, so we've gotten pretty lax about not having him restrained. Plus in the creek, he didn't want to get his leash wet :P

MrJohn, Aussies are nice dogs. I almost got one several years ago from my neighbors. They kept her in the backyard with nothing to do, so she was bored as all heck and dug up their flowerbeds. They almost gave her to me. One thing I like about Tigger is that he's ok with "being bored". He's ready for action when I am, but if I want to sit and read, he's content to lay next to me and sleep or just "keep guard" and watch everybody else. Anyway, he didn't have one of his howl episodes last night, so that's a positive. He slept peacefully. I think it'll be a lot better now that we have a stable place to stay every night.

Frodomom, I wish that were the case here! I'm in Cedar City, which is basically a college town because SUU is here. Because of that, it's more short term/yearly residents than long term people. It was really hard finding a place to stay because most real estate agencies wouldn't allow pets (or smoking). Since it's summer, over half the population has gone home lol. We ended up renting a room in a house in Enoch from private owners. They have a dog too, so they didn't really mind him. Plus the house is under construction, so there's not a whole lot a dog can destroy.

I really like Enoch so far. Our area is basically horse properties. Semi-rural I guess. The properties are large, they are spaced decently, and everybody is very lax about things. Some of the dogs aren't even kept restrained or contained. We went for a walk yesterday and had dogs come out and say hi, and when we got a certain distance away from their house, they'd go back home. Yesterday we woke up to the neighbor's black lab and border collie outside our window wanting to play!

Glad you are having fun sugar... but yeah, I dont think it is the breed as much as the handler..

Tasha is all of the above and as you know been with me a lot through travel, moving countries, hotel stays, hitch hiking, etc.. and its been the same thing with her.. I can trust her to not take a wrong step.. so I think it is a little of what kind of slate you get and how you handle it. So take your credit, it might be partial to the breed, but if you didn't handle him as well as you are, he wouldn't be as good as he is either.

I love the pics I remember when me and Tasha used to be out and about.. I miss them days...
