Default An appetizer before dinner

We sometimes let the doggies do cleanup duty and here are some pics of Sophia, Zircon and Brady (before he got bored and left). Sophia hogged the casserole dish while Zircon looked on. By the way, Zircon's porcelain bowl is in the foreground next to Brady's dish, Sophia's food bowl is next to the two water bowls in the back.

How cute! Is Zircon always such a gentleman about letting Sophia eat first?

He doesn't get a choice - she is something of a buttinsky. The only thing he'll fight her for is his ball, if she comes near that he growls but everything else she can have or steal.

LOL, great photos. I guess that is why dogs are called "dishlickers". I'm afraid mine aren't as well mannered as your crew. LOL.

Very cute photos. Mine aren't very well mannered either. Sooty snaps at Tilba if she's eating so Tilba knows to keep a wide berth. And if Tilba's eating & the cats in the room she's on guard keeping Blossom away.

Nice pics How wonderful that Zircon doesn't mind if his food is pinched but his ball he will will defend! Was this down to your training that he must not guard his food?!

I can't take credit for it. I think he was born a gentleman. He had a clam disposition even as a little puppy. But as far as his ball goes I think he could give any soccer team a run for their money. He understands the concept of controlling the ball at all times.

Actually it was Sophia who needed a lesson in staying away from the other animals' food. And I admit I used an aversive technique to get her to stop. We noticed that the cat food bowl would sometimes be licked clean. And we knew that Brady was doing that as he eats at his leisure and is not one to clean the bowl. We realized that Sophia was getting up in the middle of the night (say at 1 or 2 AM) to go chow down on the cat food. It's kind of tough to catch them in the act when they do THAT.

Rather than let this go on I brought Sophia to the cat food bowl, put her nose in it and said "NO" in an angry voice several times. Yes I realize this is not a positive method, but it did give her a negative association with the cat food and the raids stopped. Sophia will however take a swipe at Zirc's bowl and steal a nugget or two en passant if she happens to be walking by. This is also why her food bowl is far away from Zirc's and Brady's.
