Default Update on the "Six Pack"

The "Six Pack" started leaving for their new homes a week ago. Cren was the first to leave, going to a dear friend in NYS. She will be a Schutzhund. Cullen left Tuesday for Washington state, to be a personal service dog. Cuik leaves tomorrow to become a Search & Rescue K9 in NYS, joining his older sister Banshee who is also a SAR K9, in Wilderness and HRD. Connor is most likely leaving beginning of next week to become another Schutzhund. Celt is currently spending sometime in foster, as he was becoming a momma's boy. He is with a Schutzhund family who knows how to raise a working puppy. Claddagh of course is staying with me and has already begun her Schutzhund training, with puppy tracks, obedience and imprinting rag work.

Currently, I only have half a six pack at home, which is really nice! I get to spend a lot of time working with each puppy, imprinting what they will rely on as they move onto their real training. Daily I continue to see incredible changes in these pups. They are becoming more red, with a deep richer red than I had expected. The pigment, which refers to the leather on a GSD, such as lips, nose, pads, nails, is much darker than we were expecting. Drives are increasing daily, they definitely inherited the drives of their dam and sire. They are at the stage now, where they are limited in the amount of time they play with each other, as you don't want puppies in a litter to bond more to each other, than to the owner. Claddagh spends only 10 to 20 minutes a day with the other pups, as she is learning ALL amusement and fun comes from me. However, she and Artie do spend an hour or so playing in the yard, it helps to tire Claddagh out some. They are all house trained and crate trained, have been since about 7 weeks old. They don't even eliminate in their outside puppy pen. They bark to let me know they want out to go to the designated area. Makes cleaning up after them so much easier. No one has eliminated in their crates at all. They go into their crates about 10pm, and I wake them up around 6am to go outside. This is the easiest litter of pups I have ever housetrained.

This morning there was a lot of dew on the grass, and the kiddie pool helped make sure the pups would be very wet for this photo shoot.

For those wondering about the green ears, at 7 weeks puppies right ears are tattooed with a code that identifies that puppy. The code is comprised of the Region (B) the tattooer's code (E) the year (9) Kennel code (KN) litter letter (C) and number in litter order (5). Obviously, each region, tattooer and kennel code is different. This serves two purpses, one, a judge can verify who the dog is when presented for show or trial, two, if found, most shelters, rescues and such know a tattoo code can be identified by USA/SV, DVG, and other FCI organizations. Additionally, to make sure my dogs never end up where they shouldn't, I microchip them and I am the second contact after the new owner. The microchips are also registered in my name through the lot number at time of purchase.

Mr Connor, everso regal! He knows he is destined to great things.

They have all kinds of fun toys, and yet a stick is still their favorite toy.

What a difference a day makes. This is Claddagh yesterday morning, afternoon and then this morning. Those ears ! I love them!

They are all so cute. I love their dark little eyes and Claddagh's little tongue.

Thank you everyone. This has been a much anticipated litter by both working and show line fanciers. Even though Gipsi is show and DDR lines, the DDR is several generations back. The sire, Olesko, is all German show lines. With Gipsi being the New England Regional Vice Siegerin, her outstanding working ability and Olesko's numerous titles, most especially his being on the 2007 USA Ring Sport team at the World Championship,(the only GSD on the team where the others were all Malinois) many are interested in how these pups will develop. Several applicants were refused during the application process. The next six months will determine whether we repeat this breeding of Gipsi to Olesko. We have a waiting list for this breeding if it is repeated, with many LE Agencies interested in obtaining a puppy from the next breeding.

In the meantime, I will be able to watch these puppies grow, develop and hopefully the owners we have chosen will see that each of these puppies meets their full potential.

We are excited about Cuik's owners coming to pick him up today, as they also own a dog, Banshee, from our previous litter. It has been about 8 months since I last saw Banshee, so I am anxious to see how well she has developed and how well she works in SAR. This is an excellent family! they fostered Gipsi's littermate when she was returned after her owner was in a bad car accident. They have a lot of experience working and training my lines, so this is a perfect placement for Cuik.

I am sure I will bore you all with pictures of Claddagh, aka "Bug" as she grows up. She has already started to pose for the camera like her cousin Artie does. She runs, stops, looks at me, as if to say, "is this a good pose?" She also has the sticking out of the tongue down to a science, just like Artie does.

It's lovely to hear about all the wonderful jobs they're going off to do HM, I find it fascinating to read how you train your dogs to work.

Really illuminating and thank you for sharing it with us, I look forward to seeing how Claddagh grows up and learns
