Default Nellie's boat trip

Nellie has bounced right back from her mystery infection (the daxie next door has been really sick for 24 hrs as well??), so we decided to take her with us on our maiden voyage to the canal yesterday morning. On the basis that whilst it might be emotionally stimulating for her, there was nothing physically strenuous for her to deal with.

It went very well, considering hubby and I are inexperienced paddlers and went round in circles arguing for much of the trip. Also Nellie spent 99% of her time HOWLING and wailing to get out and run around on the towpath, which was much more interesting. In fact during a pause under a bridge, she leapt out of the boat onto the towpath, just as another, much larger, male Patterdale came round the corner. He approached her in a polite fashion, so she snarled savagely and scruffled the poor bewildered chap to the floor, before turning and jumping back into the boat looking pleased with herself.

Hmph. Not much I could do from my position cross-legged on the floor of a blow-up boat. Clutching a paddle. Fortunately his owner found it hilarious, as apparently its normally his dog doing the scrapping.

So here is the kayak;

And here is Nellie surveying the scene from her position up front;

Hi Sue Nellie the scrapper! I do feel a little sorry of the male Patterdale though he was being polite Was there any real need for Nellie to do that? I like both pics! The second one looks like Nellie is the Captain LOL I have a interest in canals so in the first pic where the Kayak is is the where the canal ends but originally it would have gone beyond the concrete? Or does the canal verer to the left of the pic? Lindy I do remember the music to Captain pug wash too cardboard puppets and no CGI

Cap'n Nellie Bell, LMAO.

Dave the boat is by a little slipway - the main canal branches off to the left AND the right! As long as you have a licence you can launch a non-powered boat from there whenever you like. The licence is about 30 a year, bargain.

And no, there was no reason for Nellie to be mean to the other terrier. Maybe he muttered an insult as he came around the corner? Maybe he said "hahahaha what do you look like in that stupid coat"?

How cute! Nellie looks all 'official business' in that picture. I'm having a hard time reconciling that photo with her giving anyone a hard time :-)

What a lovely day out! I'm sure Nellie had a great time. Terrier are little scrappers, that's what those of us who love terriers love about them!

Brilliant Sue, I love Nellie's little life jacket!

I think Simba would have a breakdown if I put her in a boat like that

Hi Sue that is bargain I though the canal may have also went to left of the pic! No I can see the funny side of Nellie but scrapping always worries me as it can turn really nasty!
Iam so glad so far Nipper has not had a scrap ever. She is now begining to read other dogs body langauge too which is good! Just came back from a walk and saw my new neigbour with her irish setter lovely markings on it it's not a shelter dog but has only ever known 4 other dogs and they were from the same litter so no wonder it's afraid of other dogs out side it's comfort zone (sad) any way Nipper was on leash and wnet to sniff at the setter and it growled very quitely Nipper moved away I told the owner who was right next to her dog but seh said she never heard it and told her dog off. I said never do that as you might remove the growl and her dog might then not warn in future and just have a snap at any other dog. I think she saw sense in the end! Hope you all had a nice time on the canal though, Sorry for going off topic slightly
Get a narrow boat next time sue they are great to explore the canal network
