Default St Paddy's Day E-Card/Banner Comp 17th March

Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig is the Gaelic way of expressing a wish that you have all the blessings of St Patrick's Day and the "luck of the Irish" to go with it.

So, what about a competition, with a St Paddy's day theme.

For those of you who don't know about the great man himself, here's a few facts and 'maybe' facts

* St Patrick really existed
* Taken to Ireland as a slave at age 16
* Escaped after 6 years
* Became a Christian priest, and later a Bishop
* Returned to Ireland as a missionary
* Played a major part in converting the Irish to Christianity
* Some of his writings survive, the Confessio and the Letter to Coroticus

Doubtful extra facts

* Born in 387 AD in Scotland, in Kilpatrick
* alternative sources suggest he was born at Banwen in Wales
* His original name was Maewyn Succat; he became Patrick when he became a bishop
* Studied in France at the monastery of St Martin's in Tours
* Went to Ireland in 432 AD
* Died either in 461 AD, or 493 AD (unlikely)
* Taught by Saint Germaine

Is ladarna gach cù air a ****ig fhèin.
Every dog is bold on his own midden.

The iongantas air a chat earball a bhith air.
The cat wonders at its own tail.

Cha sgal cù roimh chnàimh.
A dog yells not when hit with a bone.

Is bean-taighe ‘n luchag air a taigh fhèin.
The mouse is mistress in her own house.

So there you go folks. Whatever you do, poetry, cards, paintings, etc., etc., do put some green somewhere, and the luck of the Irish will go with you.

Of course, the competition closes on the 17th March, the day of the good man himself.

Don't forget that it was St Patrick that chased all the snakes out of Ireland, which is why we have none

Being part Irish, the holiday is special to my clan. At the risk of embarrassing a few of my dogs, yet again....Over the years I have embarrassed my dogs to the point I am surprised they haven't plotted to "get rid" of me in my sleep. Each year we do several holiday photos for our web site and to send out to previous puppy buyers. Here is our holiday picture, taken in 2005, with a few of our girls. Left to Right, Farquar, Gipsi, & Gesha.

What a lovely card. The girls look very 'impessed' with their Irish look. I love the name Gesha.

Would you like this one to be put forward into the competition, or have you any more you would like to be considered?

Thanks so much for posting.

Oh my, these cards have reached a new level. Anyone would think they are made by professionals! Good job Members.

I've got a meadow at the back of the house and I'm determined to find a 4-leafed clover. I used to spend hours as a 'bairn' at my Grandaddies house searching in his garden for 4 leafed clovers. I did find one.

And here's something else. I swear when I was a bairn, I held the end of a rainbow in the palm of my hands in Donegal.
