Default Bear - The Rottie/Burmese Cross

I love this dog. He's HUGE! He's currently at the shelter, he will most likely go out to a rottie rescue. They think he's crossed with Burmese Mountain Dog - but the only semblance of that is his curly fur along his back. He is an absolute doll, such a big love bug. I kind of want him .

Ohhh I love him, loving and having had a Rotty years back named: Kava, I think they make wonderful loving pets if brought up properly. He should get a wonderful home as he looks like a big bear of fun....

He just had entropian surgery that he is recovering from so in the meantime they are looking for a rescue that may be able to take him. If none can, he'll stay at the shelter. He's a big boy and I'm sure a bit intimidating to some, but with his wonderful demeanor I'm sure somebody will love to give him a home. He came from our shipment from down south and he was apparently surrendered along with a Siberian husky mix named Lexie. She's an angel and she and Bear get along famously and are madly in love. Sadly, it is too difficult to adopt out dogs together so they have been separated. However they are put in the outdoor pen together every day for playtime and visiting (and quite a few kisses). They're quite a pair. Pic of Lexie:

She is gorgeous also, its a shame that they can't be adopted together but they are big dogs, do you find it easier to try and adopt small dogs together or is it too difficult to adopt them out together aswell?

Aww, they're both stunning. Fancy popping a stamp on their bums and sending them over?!

Small dogs are much easier to adopt out together but still more difficult than if they were alone. If the dogs are extremely bonded and there is obvious separation anxiety when they are removed from one another, then they will keep them together. Right now we have a boxer and a Boston Terrier that have to be adopted out together. We can't even walk one without the other without them having a fit. A while back we had a GSD and an APBT that were inseparable. It took 6 MONTHS to find them a home. As sad as it is to separate, it is in the best interest for the animals in order to find a home quickly and get out of the shelter environment. While no kill shelters are a wonderful concept, dogs commonly go kennel crazy when kept in the shelter world too long.

Oh I have heard really bad stories about rescue dogs going insane when they are in kennels, and I agree that it is better to separate and get them into new homes quicker then for them to be kept in kennels for longer. Is it well worth it though when you see dogs go home with their new owners?

Most of them do fine separated. I'm sure even the more bonded ones would eventually be okay, it's just too heartbreaking to separate them when they are already so scared and confused from being given up. Bear is fine when he is away from Lexie. Lexie is a little bit more withdrawn when first taken away from him. Part of me thinks they should stop letting them interact every day and make a clean break. But they have so much fun together.
