Its really upsetting these lovely dogs are almost extinct!

Doesn't anyone want to help preserve the breed by owning them?

I would love to own one but I don't think the rest of my family would lol. When I have my own place and money they are definitely on my to get list!

Carole It is really a shame and I think they are stunning but with four dogs and a cat already I just don't have the room, sorry.

Do hope that they manage to be preserved would be a shame if such a lovely breed was wiped out.

The picture is of My Two Borzois Pellow and Rye I also had a Golden Oldie named Ludmilla who went to the Bridge on 14.03.07 and my special wee man Brodie who sadly went to the bridge on 22 August 2008 All loved and missed as are all the others who have gone before I still have little Faun my dachshund and last but by no means least Keri the Birman Cat.

Borzois are like chocolates one is never enough

Oh I know Eunice. I'm just hoping that maybe someone may be reading this who is looking for a pup and hasn't decided which breed to get - you never know.

I've got my name down for a pup when one is available for a pet home (working homes get the priority - might be why they are an endangered breed). Its not as if my dog wouldn't get plenty of exercise and stimulation living with Jakey.

I do, I do, Pick me!!!!

Lol, seriously though I would really like to look into getting one. I can't get another doggy now, not until Simba's fully 'rehabilitated', but OH and I have been talking about the type of dog we would both like to get when we can. We've agreed that we want a spaniel (as they're my favourites and he loves them too), I know springers and cockers but I really want to find out more about the IWS.

I thought they didn't sell to pet homes though?

They give preference to working homes Mel. I think they can be a bit 'precious' and feel that IWS are such a specialist dog you have to have a PhD in owing an Irish Water Spaniel to have one. Well I proved them wrong - didn't I? LOL. Jake really is the easiest dog I've ever trained!

Anyway there are some breeders who 'may' consider selling to a pet home if there are any spare!

Well I've got to wait a fair time before I can get one anyway, I figure I have to get Simba the way I want her before I introduce another, for fear of her getting worse or the new pup learning bad habits from her.

Simba loves other dogs to bits and I loved my old springer so much I just want another big soppy, water-crazy spaniel in my life. I do love the way Jake looks, he's so gorgeous and I'd be more than happy to add an IWS to my gang, especially if it meant helping the breed out. I've been considering a Sussex spaniel for the same reasons too.

How big is he Carole?

I'd love to have one. They'd fit in with our lifestyle- plenty of swimming, hiking, chasing after things, but they wouldn't be true working dogs. Besides over on this side of the Atlantic there are so many shelter dogs that needs homes - it's hard to choose. Also hubby has told me that if I get another dog then he gets to have another wife. I told him 'yes' but so far he hans't taken me up on it.

He is a little bigger than most water spaniels. His dad was big and so is his grandfather. He weights 32Kg but that is big. If you imagine a standard poodle but give it a deeper chest like a greyhound, a little longer body than a poodle and shorter legs (like a spaniel) you have Jake.

This might give you some size perspective - I'm 5'10".

Here he is playing with a staffordshire bull terrier that might also give you size perspective - oh she is a small Staffy LOL (one of his girlfriends)

I agree re. shelter dogs - its the same here but I'm justifying it by convincing myself its helping the breed.

Hey - my hubby couldn't stand two wives LOL
