Unhappy Ouchy

Rascal is very itchy around her female parts She practically goes into a frenzy when she starts biting at them.
We have started treating her with triple antibiotic ointment to help relieve the itching. I am hoping if we treat it several times a day we can control it.

We also treated her for after her bath because of her scratching. She wasn't dirty either. I hope it is just the hot weather. Today it is only supposed to be 84 and cooler tomorrow. Then back into the 90s.

I know our exceptionally hot weather here has caused a lot of itching in dogs. We don't usually get days on end of upper 30 degrees with only the occasional light rain.
I have all my dogs clipped right down which I think helps. Never realized before what heavy coats poodles and poodle crosses get.

Hope Rascal starts to feel better.

Our dog has the same issue (has for a while now, poor thing) and we plan to ask the vet about it when we go to get her tumor removed. I'm thinking it may be a yeast infection or fungal infection because of how she acts and it looks. We tried bathing her and shaving it down but it doesn't seem to be helping much.

If you want I can let you know what the vet says when the time comes.

Hope Rascal feels better soon!

We tried Benadryl cream today. We do have clippers for our own hair but Rascal doesn't even have a double coat! We could just have down the middle of her back I guess!

Rascal is maybe a pure bred beagle.

We brought our dog to the vet and he said it seemed to be allergy related. We haven't put her on allergy medicine yet because we're not sure that is the problem, since she doesn't really lick or scratch anywhere else (and we've had dogs with allergies in the past).

We're pretty sure its because she had lip fold dermatitis and I guess she was spreading her bacterial infection from her mouth to anywhere she licked. She's on antibiotics, which will hopefully help (she needs it before she gets her teeth cleaned and her fatty tumor removed).

Anyways, just thought I would update. Not sure if it helps, since we didn't really get any answer we were looking for, but it might give you some ideas.

Hubby used the fiminator on Rascal especially around the neck where her fur is heavier. He used the regular brush on the rest. This seemed to help a great deal

How has Rascal been? Is she still scratching? My sister has a Rat Terrier that she does Agility with and she has not been able to find anything to stop her scratching. She has had her into numerous vets and the last one just wants to put her on prednisone. She has tried it and although it has certainly helped but she cannot keep her on it long term because of the many bad side effects. She has tried every type of food for months on end before trying something else and it has never made a difference. The food that the Vet prescribed made her way worse.

Sorry for hijacking your post but does not seem to be anyone else out there.

Hubby has been brushing her with a furminator around the neck where she has very heavy fur for a beagle and treating her for fleas ( although we have never found fleas or dirt)
Can your sister have her dog tested for allergies. She must have some!
