Default So worried about Sir Moose

Moose managed to pull the stitches out of his foot despite having the cone on. He now has to we3ar a sock on it to prevent the hole from filling with dirt.

He does not like that hepatic dog food and I do good to get h I'm to eat a cup of food a day. We even bought the canned, which he seemed to like--until he bit into one of thoe Ursodiol caps. He so needs to eat more.

He still insists on his morning walks and talking trash with neighbor dogs, just turns his nose up at the food. His liver enzymes were 4 times higher than they should have been so it is so important he eat the right food. But he doesn't want it.

I am going to round all figures off. We paid #100 for that 26 pound of Royal Canin Hepatic kibble. I googled and the cheapest I have found it is $85 at Chewy. The cans from my vet are #3.40 a can and about that elsewhere, but at Chewy I can get a case of 24 cans for about $2.85 a can.

Hubby went to Walmart to pick up the prescription for the Ursodiol and it was an eye popping $220 for a month's supply---60 caps, 300 mgs each. He called me and I told him not to get them then, I would check around. Was the same at all the drug stores, even more at some. I did find one place, Diamond Back Drug Company in Arizona and filled out the infor for a quote. Meanwhile I download a coupon and hubby gets them pills for $150 at Walgreens.

Then the e-mail quote from Diamond Back--$44 for the same med. That could nto be right, so I asked for another quote and also did some searching. They have an A+ rating with the BBB and almost all the reviews were great. But those can be faked. So I asked if anyone on my golden retriever forum, my Great Pyrenees forum and my face book Pryenees forum had ever heard of that company.

Well, two on my golden forum replied they use Diamond Back. One said she lives near the plant and picks up the orders herself. The other uses it on her dog with Valley Fever becaue the drug is so high and they are so much cheaper. Both swore by it. Then of the 10 who post regular on my pyr forum, , 2 also replied they use that company and one also has a pyr with valley fever and said how much cheaper that drug is there. AND on my FB group, same thing. One happens to live over in Corpus and she said her vet and gave his name and clinic, recommended it and sent in the prescription for her.

So they are a legit company. They charge $8 shipping for a small package and $10 if it has to be refrigerated. If you have a dog on an expensive long term med, check them out.

Sandra, I also used Diamond Back for some of the chemotherapy regimen that Chessie was on. They were recommended to me by LIVS (where she was seen) and were just wonderful. Their prices were substantially lower and their customer service could not have been better. I am in NY and their shipping was super fast. If they work out being cheaper for you, I would recommend them.
Poor Moose with his sock! It made me smile to read of him wanting his walks and interacting with the other dogs.he sounds like he is hanging in very well and I hope his food and medications get sorted out soon and that he is feeling better very soon. Kudos to you for the great care you are giving him.

I used to get Arny's insulin from an online vet as it was a fraction of the cost my own vet charged. Of course my vet had to write the prescription, and even though that was about 50 it still came out cheaper for the insulin. I definitely pays to shop around (at reputable out lets of course).

Hope Sir Moose is doing okay and eating a bit better by now.

How many Ursodiol caps does Moose have to take each day? I can't put medicine in my dogs' food. They will always sort them out and not eat them. I have to put the medicine in a ball of smelly cheese or actually put the medicine down their throats, hold their mouths closed and rub their throats until they swallow the pill. Not my favorite way to do it, but sometimes you just have to do it. Hope Moose gets better.

Sir Moose takes 2 of the capsuls a day. At first I put them in a ball of his canned hepatic food, but he bit into one and then wouldn't touch the canned food. So I wrap them in a very small piece of cheese which he swallows whole

It is impossible to get a pill down his throat. He saws with his lower jaw and his big tongue is strong and pushes my hand out. If the pill isn't clear at the back of his throat, he spits it out.
