Default Hemset had a bad day

I woke up this morning and when I let her out of the crate the side of her head was bloody and sticky. I didn't see anything sharp in her crate and couldn't recall her being hurt by anything. When it was cleaned up it turned out that she had open and infected wound, about an inch in size, where a layer of skin was completely gone. The hypothesis is that she had been bitten by a bug or had some similar small injury that became infected and abcessed, then when it was really itchy she scratched it open. The wound was cleaned and wrapped, and she'll be on antibiotics as there's an orange line leading from the wound (an infection). Well, when we got home I decided she'd probably want to rest after that ordeal so I put her to bed while I made dinner. After dinner I went to check on her and found out that she'd managed to take off the bandage and scratch at it some more, which not surprisingly, made it worse. I cleaned it up and re-bandaged it, this time adding some duct tape on top of it to (hopefully) keep her from getting at it again. I've attached some quick photos of the bandage, and if you want to see the injury itself you can click this link:

Edit; nope the duct tape didn't work, she folded the front part of the bandage behind her ears somehow. I have no idea how to keep her from scratching at this.

Edit again; I tried putting a t-shirt on her but it was too big. I cut up an old pair of pants and put a leg over her head like sweater, it seems to be working. I put her collar on over it to keep it there.

Third edit; Unfortunately she's Houdini'd herself out of everthing I could think of - anti-itch creams, t-shirts, towel braces, bandages, the pants leg (and a few variations), booties and socks, two different types of e-collar, and an inflatable donut. Her wound is almost three times as big as it was originally. The only thing I can do now is keep a constant watch and wrap her up in the blanket with me when I sleep. Short of tying her up I don't know what more I can do (and she'd probably just get out of that anyway). I probably won't have much time on my hands for a little while so I won't be on here very often if at all.

You may have to get a plastic c-collar from the Vet so she cannot reach to scratch at it.

I may just do that in the morning. It's too late tonight.

Oh Poor Hemset! I do hope it wasn't a mosquito as they can spread nasty dieseases like malria and possibly the Zikra Virus. DO keep a eye on her and get that special collar Hope she heals fast

Meant to say E-collar. (Elizabethan collar - not the electric kind)

Poor Hemset. Hope she is doing better. Hope the pants leg bandage works...very original. Sounds like something I would do as those plastic collars from the vets freak out my big babies.

Cone of shame is another name. You can maybe get one at a pet store. Poor Hamset

Oh dear, poor little thing. Definitely a cone or a pro-collar to stop her being able to scratch it. Much as they hate them, in instances such as this, it's necessary. Hope she heals soon.
