Default Identifying a skin problem

my dog is suffering from a problem along her back. it started above the base of her tail with a oozy sore. i thought i took care of it, and it was gone maybe a month. then it came back then started losing hair up her back maybe about half way up. i have been treating it with a anti septic/anti itch spray. now i see a spot on the back side of her leg (i guess her butt cheek?) there is a bad odor from her skin. the original sore looks more like a callus. i do plan to take her to the veterinarian, but this will be a month or two from now. unless between now and then i can find a way to fix this. she use to have a very beautiful shinny coat.

please has anyone seen this before?

i have never seen it before but i have a feeling this is mange.

expect a double post this thread didnt show up when i posted it =/

I would not leave your dog in this condition for a few months before visiting the vet, I would suggest you take her as soon as you can. This must be very sore and irritable for her. It needs to be controlled as soon as possible, before it spreads further and takes so much longer to treat.

a month is probably the soonest i will be able to get her to the vet. she has been in this shape about three. she isnt lethargic she has plenty of energy, and is the first to remind me when it is time to eat and when it is treat time. i do want to take her though just no money for it at the moment. i would realy like to know what it is and anything besides antiseptic spray till then.

Hi scoobee I too wouldn't leave it for a month if the wound smells ect then a visit to your vets is paramount to establish whats going on. It could be a insect bit or a alergy we aren't vets and can't diagnose the problem for you so the sooner you het her to a vets the better! Please let us know how you get on! Good luck

I agree with the other 2 posts. We aren't vets and your dog needs to see a vet as soon as possible.
Welcome to df too.

Same as above....wouldn't wait too long before going to the vets.

I have to agree with the rest of the Forum members. Your pup needs to see a vet as soon as possible.
