Sarcoptic Mange

Does anyone out there have any experiences with Sarcoptic Mange? I have a puppy that has it & it's suppossed to be contagious to humans and other dogs. My vet acted like it was not a big deal, but I kind of think it is. I would really like to talk to somebody who knows something about it.

how easy is it for a human to get it? Cute pup

How long does it take to cure it? My vet says the puppy needs to stay in isolation until its gone & there is a possiblity it could come back. I have 2 other dogs, how easy can they get it? Is there anyway that i can be sure that my other pets or family members won't get it? And how will it effect the puppy ( not being played with and everything) I know I have a lot of Qs, I hope you can answer some

In most cases the sarcoptic mange mites have a very short life span and prefer to live that short life on your pet but it is communicable so just be sure to was your hands/part of your body after contact. dont let him/her sleep on your bedding and wash his/hers daily. Using Frontline spray, or Revolution on your pup will get ride of the mange. Does this help you feel a little better?

Thanks:D

Yes it does make me feel better, thanks. My vet gave me dip to put him in, once a week for 6 weeks. He also got a shot and he goes back in 2 weeks for another. Are my other dogs in danger of getting it?

It really depends on the severity of the mange of how long it takes to go away. As long as your other dogs have frontline plus drops on them they SHOULD be safe not 100% though I would just limit their exposure to the pup but if the pup has been with the other dogs from day 1 then they prob have been exposed to it they may get it they may not. Your pup still needs attention just wash hands and if makes you feel better change clothes.

Is the sarcoptic mange that bad? They are at risk of getting the mange yes but don't stress if you cant always keep them separate
