Default Mosquito Bites?

On Friday Lincoln and I went fishing with a friend. We stayed out till about 9pm and between 7pm and 9pm we were eaten alive by Misquitos (forgot the bug spray for us and dog). Sunday evening while laying in bed with him petting him I notice 3 noticable lumps. There was two together on his hind leg. It is skin colour and not attached to anything. I can actually pick it up between my finger and all it feels like is two very small hard lumps. Then there is a single identical one on his flank and another on on his front arm. All where the fur is scarse. They dont seem to be itching him, upon further inspection hes got some small ones on his ears where there is no fur at all and those are itchy. None of them bother him..I can squeeze, scratch and roll around between my fingers and he isnt phased.

They were not there before Friday as I would of noticed them as every night I am petting him like this. I will massage his legs, shoulder and back. I am sure normally they would go un noticed but I am a paranoid dog mother. Whats your views on this? I do plan on getting them looked at if they are getting bigger but if they stay the same I will wait to get them looked at until I get his blood work and x-rays done. When I am done my coffee I will grab some pics of them...chances are you wont even be able to see them.

Good chance they're mosquito bites.

MacKenzie and I were out on a trail yesterday and we finally had to turn back and flee the deer flies. Today, I have lumps just like Lincoln does!

Insect bites itch more where there's fleshy material and less where there is none (like ears)...well, except black flies that itch no matter where you get them..

Since you both got bit, I'd wait until all your lumps go away and then check him to make sure his are gone too!

Here are three pics.

This is the cluster on his ear. They feel like raised bump when you run your finger over them, if I scratch them his back leg twitches which means they are itchy, the bumps are just above the yellow dots I put in. Theres a couple more and one or two on his other ear but you cant really see those.

This one is his right back leg. When I scratch it he doesnt twitch his leg, I can squeeze it and it dont bother him and its bigger than the ones on his ears.

This is the one on his from left front arm. Its maybe a tad small that the one on his hind leg but bigger that the ones in his ears. This one dont bother him either nor does it appear to be itchy. I dont think he notices it.

Like I said when I was at Firemens park with him fishing we all were getting eaten. I have over 10 bites on me. He was twitching, shaking his head loads, quickly turning his head to bite his legs, arms, back and side as I pressume they were on him there. I think I would of noticed these lumps before if they arent skeeter bites. Could also be black fly bites too....if we have them here.

looks like a bite to me... I think you would have seen a reaction by now if Lincoln was going to ahve one... My old dog Max got bitten in the nose by something once, within minutes his face started to swell. It went down on it's own pretty quick...

As far as I know, black flies aren't that far south. they're a northern wilderness thing...

From the look in the pic's I'd say deer fly or horse fly bites.

Humans do a better job of swatting them away with our hands or a hat, animals shake their heads but don't do a good job of swatting...

Both of them take a little chunk out of the skin as compared to a mosquito that just sticks it's stinger in and injects saliva to thin the blood so it can suck it out (bite is a misnomer in this case).

The only problem with insect bites on an animal (or human) other than the irritation is if the bite keeps being scratched to the point of becoming infected. If he starts scratching them excessively try a little calomine lotion.

lol I was swatting every 5 seconds and they still were coming back for more. Poor Lincoln was going bonkers. They arent cut or bleeding or anything the ones on his legs and arm are under the skin. Like if I roll it between my fingers it feels like a small hard thing..about the size of an apple seed but round. I think I may put calamine lotion on his ears and on the ones on his legs. He isnt itching his ears, but god forbid he does and gets another Hematoma. Better safe than sorry.
