Default Never give up on a dog

Never give up on a dog just because of health issues.

People say to me what a lovely dog Jake is with this or that pedigree - and to me his is - however he is a rescue dog.

I'm posting some pics of him at rescue and as he is now - i won't say that it wasn't hard work and patience to get him to his current state of health. He's had countless allergy tests - but here he is before/after.

6 weeks after rescue weighing in at 19.5 Kg - 1/3 underweight!

6 months after rescue - beginning to get better - but still losing his coat not putting on a lot of weight

and here he is now - nearly 2 years on -weighing in at 32Kg - ideal weight - the vet said he is in prime health!

So if any member would like help on health issues relating to allergies, including dietary intolerance or immune mediate problems I'd be happy to help with my limited knowledge and experience.

thanks for looking

Carole those pictures are a wonderful example of what a loving and highly knowledgable person can accomplish. Sometimes I think many vets would have a hard time keeping up with you as far as understanding veterinary medications go. Diagnosing and treating skin problems alone seem to be a 'book with seven seals.' Jake was very lucky that he found you as an owner, he has a life now that many dogs would envy if they had that emotion.

Carole, you don't know what your post has done for me. I am so depressed lately about our Collie boy and his health issues. I was wondering what I was going to do next. Your post has given me hope to keep going.

OMG i didn't know he was a rescue and so badly treated, poor thing. He looks great now and you've worked wonders with him. Bless you and people like you who are willing to dedicate your time effort patiance and love to these poor animals. Why do people treat there animals like this when all they wont to do is please us. Jake is looking sooo good now and from the vid you posted the other day is a happy puppy to.

Oh Pauline - don't get depressed because whatever diagnosis you get it doesn't mean that you can't treat it and whatever prognosis you get is just based on statistics - unfortunately vets work on statistics.

And also whatever symptoms you see doesn't mean the diagnosis is accurate based on symptoms. I've seen to many people run down blind alleys by just diagnosing on symptoms alone.

I've been away from the forum for sometime now so I don't know what your collie's health is like - but i will look on your forum posts and if you would like any help or advice I'd be more than willing to help you.

Never give up - I've seen terminally ill patients live for years and go into remission and I've seen humans with 70% liver failure who were not expected to last 24 hours to be home this easter holiday and tucking into low fat food.

thanks for your comments re. Jake xxxx
