Default Can dogs 'catch' anything from sniffing etc.?

I was wondering if there is any danger of letting my dog sniff other dogs (even though I am not sure if other dogs are disease free)?

I have no idea, should I pull him away or let him have a sniff?

parvo is very contigious as are colds, strep etc. i never let my dogs sniff unknown dogs.
