Default Red/Bloody Butt

I have a dog that is 3-4 years old I got her at the pound and I am not sure what her breed is, mixed. But I have been noticing her anal area has been red with little blood. Does anyone know what this is before I take her to the vet?
Thanks in advance

Hello puppy916 and welcome to Dogforum.org

I would guess worms but it is just a guess. Your vet will be able to diagnose what the problem is. Blood is never a good sign.

It could also mean an infection in the intestine or there could be somthing the pup ate that caused a tear or a cut.

Best wishes and please let us know how it turns out.

Is she spayed? Is there a chance she's in heat?

My Border Collie has the same thing,It is called the Scoots,She has to be taken in every two months,She has two sacks in her anal that get infected and need to be cleaned out im not sure what the right name for it is,And Maggy has had a raw rear end due to her"Scooting"Take the dog to the vets they will clean it out,and then give you an antibioic cream to put on,This is something a dog can have once or it may continue,Maggy's case she has had this for the past year,You can clean it out yourself but i take her to the vets,as im not one i would not want to do anything to hurt her,I know of alot of people that do actually do it too there dogs.My best advice run the pup into the vet it will be more comfortable for it in the long run.

That is called cleaning out the anals sacs. But, there are about 5 sacs around that area so it is best to get the vet to look and if needed he/she could do it and show u for it is not hard to do. Messy and stinks to high heaven. Unless she might be in heat, is she swollen at all and if so watch she does not slip out and get bred.

I have no where near the experience to even try to guess what the problem is...but wanted to say welcome to the board
