Default Dogs and obsessions

My staffie is obsessed with my socks, he will do anything to get one, he has also learnt that if he gets a sock and i see he will make it all disapear in his mouth within a split second. til i shout leave it then he drops it and goes sulks. He also trys to pull socks off my feet without me noticing.

Is anybobys elses dog obsessed with something they own??

Nope. Shelby isn't obsessed with anything we own.

Are the socks generally laying about in your room? or is he getting them from a hamper or something?

When he goes for the ones on your feet, say "ah-kee!", short and quick, and give him one of his chew toys. You could optionally take a sock, preferably an old one , and douse it with some tabasco sauce...hopefully after tasting it he won't be interested in socks anymore.

Lots of dogs really like socks. I find the best way to stop Ozzy when he has nabbed one is to make NO SOUND at all, approach him nonchalantly & simply open his mouth & remove it. Immediately as I take it out of his mouth, I say, "NO" and walk away with it.

The reason? Shouting, chasing, etc. could be part of the game. I know it was with Ozzy. Now, it isn't nearly as much fun & he doesn't even attempt to flee with the sock.

Funny how he tries to take them off your feet. Well, probably more annoying than funny. But yes, my Chi's love socks. I'll let them play with an old sock, otherwise I have to keep the good ones away from them. I think it's so funny to watch them kill the socks, shake their heads and do that talkie/growly thing. Even the big dogs like socks, but I really have to watch them that they don't bite off a piece and choke. So, it's kept to a minimum. But I wouldn't say they're obsessed.

Jose` is obsessed with food. I mean most all dogs love food, but he's obsessed. He'll do anything for food. If I get a new bag of food and before it gets put away in the pantry closet, he'll lie next to it for hours and growl at any dog who comes close. He stays right there until it's put away, even when it's way down the hall and away from all the activity. He'll sacrifice hanging out with me, which he normally always does (a velcro dog) if there's a bag of food leaning up against the wall somewhere else in the house.

Another weird thing he's been doing is resource guarding (from the other dogs, not me) the Dremel. LOL. I normally put it away in a cupboard. But sometimes I leave it out. Last time I left it out, it was in my room under the TV table, which is a sewing maching table with legs but no bottom. So, it was on the floor. Everyone else is out in the living room or kitchen, but there Jose` lay for hours right next to the Dremel. No dog dared walk near him. When my Doberman walked in my room, he got growled at and backed off and left. So, Jose` has really associated that Dremel with treats, even though he's not thrilled to have his nails Dremelled....he still guards it. I think that's too weird. Poor Jose`.

My dogs loved socks whether it was just to carry them around or have a good game of tug of war outside. The solution to keep them away from ours was very simple.

We kept a bag of old socks just for the dogs. Before giving them a fresh sock we'd tie a knot in the middle of it. By trading off a knotted one when they had one of ours, they quickly learned that if it had a knot in it--it was theirs. The rest were not to be touched! Knotted old socks make great and inexpensive outside toys since they're fully washable and free!

My guys didn't eat them though, they just carried them around and tossed them or played keep away or tug-of-war with each other.

Beau and one of his sock treasures.

Too funny! We used to do the tie a know in it and it theirs trick too. But, Rocky decided to start eating/shredding them. And then Maya found out how much fun it was. We don't give them anymore socks. They are just sneaky and take them by themselves. Now, Rocky has progressed to eating anything that is cloth or has a tag on it. He ate a dryer sheet last night! AAHHHH! I spend more time chasing him down trying to get things away from him than I do relaxing lately. This has just happened within the last month. I understand the frustration.

Maya is just obsessed with her blanket. She appears to be nursing(sucking) on it and kneading her little feet. She is deffinately not chewing. It's very cute! LOL Her security I guess. Until Rocky tries to eat it and we're off again!

My dogs are obcessed with pencils. Any type of lead, colored, crayon then can get ahold of, they ruin it. They are also obcessed with plastic forks, spoons and knives. Its really easy to tell when Mazie has something she's not supposed to. Its almost like she taunts you, but she will stand across the room staring at your and her whole body is wiggling because she's excited. The other day she was dancing around all happy so I went to take whatever she had, and it was so adorbale, she had a little eraser. She was so excited over that eraser lol.

lol thats so funny, my dog like all clothes in the washing basket, coz they smell of the family, she'll just take them off to a different room, theres always a sock here, pants there, i think its hilarious.

My dog is obsessed with tissues, she LOVES to rip 'em up, i think maybe it feels like riping flesh??

They just KNOW when they're not supposed to have something!
