Ozzy has a particular howl when one particular dog is roaming down our street & when he's inside the house & a squirrel is in the back yard. Sounds like he's excited about seeing you come home after work.

Sophia does a throaty WOO WOOO WOOO that would be scary if you didn't know her and know that this is her "I'm happy to see you" noise.
I think Reggie is telling you more with his body language-front paws down with a stretch is a good sign.

Jenny doesn't bark or howl or make any noises at all.

According to 'How to Speak Dog', the 'moan-yodel' means : "Pleasure & excitement, signals when something the dog likes is about to happen".

Cassie does that exact stretch & ohwowowooowwow noise. She also 'talks' like that when she's excited about something but knows she's not supposed to be barking.

O.o Never listen to a whippet howl. At least Vanna. It is the most high pitch, weirdest throaty, moan/growl/yawn thing you have ever heard!

Abby is the first dog we have ever had who would not "sing". I really miss that. It is fun to howl and sing with your dog.

She has many redeeming qualities, however.

Megs does that deep ohwowowooowwow sound that Mixedbreed was talking about when she hears the music for M*A*S*H!!!! Ever since she was about 3 months old which was the first time she heard it after we got her she started it. If she hears the music playing from another part of the house she runs in to the room to listen and start howling - I think it's something to do with (what sound to me like) horns or something - but even if you sing the tune to her she comes right up to your face a cocks her head listening to it.

The funniest thing was when Bonnie was little and Meg did that for the first time it made Bonnie have a totally looney attack - so we had one dog howling her head off and the other flying round and round the room like a nutter!
