Default Why did you pick that breed?

I'm just wondering what made people pick the breed they own. I chose a staffie as i didn't want a small dog and also didn't want a big dog. I also liked what i read about them in books and wanted a dog that could handle long walks and also be happy with short walks. As i do spend most evenings alone i wanted a dog that would be a good watch dog and also put people off breaking in to my house while i'm at work. he looks a mean but is so soft, i actually think he would like people to break into the house.
i think have chose the prefect dog for me.

What made you chose your breed???

We chose a labrador as we have a lot of kids and a lot of grankids and even though they dont live here they may as well do cos the house is never empty, I think labs are particularly good around children and babies (well thats been my experience of them )and also are more delighted than worried when company arrives....... plus because he needs plenty of excercise we benefit from that too (keeps us active even though we are old)
I firmly believe that labs (well most im sure there sre exceptions as in most breeds) are very family orientated so the more company the better for them ............

when I was in switzerland two years ago we were skiing down a mountain and came to a resteraunt. At the resteraunt was this beautiful white dog....for months we could figure out what he was...when we came home we assumed he was a husky shepherd mix because of all of that hair and because he was straightbacked and didnt look snipey.

Thats how we ended up with Jay who is a Shep-Husky-Somethin' cross. Then after he became Dad's dog I realized that beautiful dog was a BBS (and even later realized that dog was a white shepherd). I got my pup...and I found out these were a breed I could fight for...they are under alot of opression..and I want to do what I can to ease that by improving their work ability (which is actually pretty good) and other things

I wanted a small dog that could cope with long walks. Started off with terriers but then became a dog groomer and fell head over heels with poodles. They are just like the terriers without the, erm, tenacious streak!

I wasn't looking for a dog when we got Ozzy. We had been planning for a couple of years to get a dog — but just didn't have any immediately plans. We discussed lots of breeds and had pretty much narrowed the list down to Akita, Belgian Tervuren, Rotweiler, Mastiff, and a few other large breeds. Mark always mentioned he liked Goldens, Labs, Viszlas, Weimerainers and I kept pushing for the larger dogs as I had more history with them.

A friend's sister had a litter of Goldens & I went to visit with her "just to see the cute puppies" — by the time we left, I had almost 100 pics of the pups so that Mark could pick out which "one of two" pups we would bring home in a few weeks. The rest is history — he's turning out to be the smartest & best dog I've ever owned which was quite a pleasant surprise to me.

I got my first borzoi because I loved them as a child, and always wanted one. He was so easy that when he passed on, I knew I had to get another one. The breed just works for me in gentle calmness.

I wanted bigger dogs than what I have, but my b/f was not keen on big dogs. So I began research on the toy breeds. Saw a Papillon and was like wow. Lovely little thing. Funnily enough though I saw my TFT's face, and wound up getting him first. Love at first sight. I still wanted a Papillon and a playmate for my TF, so then I got one. Although my TF has me sold on terriers.

That is quite a co-incidence I too loved the breed as a child when I saw a picture of a borzoi in a book and I said that one day when the time was right for me I would have one. I eventually got my first borzoi and he was such a gentleman and such a great ambassador for the breed that I knew I just had to have another and then another and then another still. They are such an aristocratic, regal and gentle breed and I really researched them in a very big way before having my first as though I always loved them and felt they were the breed for me . I had to make sure they would fit in wiith our lifestyle before comitting. I am glad to say they did and still do this breed will always have my heart I really adore them.

We accidentally learned about Louisiana Catahoulas because of an e-mail being passed around at hubby's work. He wanted a large dog, so we looked at the breed description. We thought he'd be a lot of fun with our family, as long as we stressed training throughout his life. His breed tends to want to be boss, so he keeps us on our toes. He's a very sleek, long bodied herder. Man - the dog can RUN!!!
