Default Question about albino dogs?

I was reading a thread about Doberman Coloring, and It was said that there is a Albino Doberman. My question is are White German Shephard albino?
Also it was said that you're not suppose to breed a albino doberman, is that so with every albino dog? How do you know if there albino??

Here is an article that might help explain the difference between white dogs & albino dogs:

in my area there is a great dane rescue group, and right now they have 2 albino danes, both are deaf and one is blind as well because of the albino genes, these dogs will never get to live out a normal life because someone bred them to be albinos, (they were rescued from a puppy mill).

i have always asumed that albinos are a lack of any pigments making them solid white and having red colored eyes and very white skin, also the tend to be deaf, blind or both.

White GSD are not albino. A "WHITE" dog has dark eyes, skin, nose and dark pigment. The "ALBINO" has pink skin, nose, blue eyes (or light yellow in a few specimens).

Albino Doberman's are true albinos that come with all the health defects a Albino comes with. The Albinos have "photosensitivity" to sunlight. They have problems related to sight due to this problem. This can be reflected
in temperament or insecurity problems. Albino is a "Deleterious Genetic Mutation" and carries with it many traits that are harmful and not conducive to proper Doberman temperament and health.

Albino is not a colour is a genetic condition that has never been desirable for guard or personal protection dog which is what Louis Dobermann developed the Doberman Pinscher for. There are many unscrupulous breeders out there that are exploiting the public by breeding and selling these dogs as " rare " and for loads of money when in reality these dogs are genetic freaks that will cost the new owners potfuls of money in vet bills, lots of heartache and even could land the own in trouble with the law because of temperment problems.

The Albino Doberman should neve be bred, albino Doberman's are threatening the integrity of the breed, it is very sad. Dogs that have albino in the lines have beed " Z " listed and you can find "Z " listed dogs on the Doberman Pinscher Club of America and the Doberman Pinscher Cub of Canada's webiste's, if you are considering buying a pupp. It is best you ensure that your dog has NO albino in it's background.

Personally imho I think it is disgusting that breeders bred for this. It is a health defect that causes the dog nothing but pain and grief. The should never be bred and breeders should strive to remove any Albinism from their lines.

It all started with with one Albino bitch that was whelped in the mid 1970's. The breeder of this dog was a BYB, very irresponsible, only saw dollar signs and decided to breed her back to her sire. She whelped albino pups, and the males, her sons that were albino, were bred back to her to produce more albinos. That is how it started with albino Dobermans.

It is a story of true irresponsible breeding and that person who started this in my opnion should be in jail. They have started the Dobe lines on a path of destruction if breeders now are not careful.

I also have another question that my hubby wanted to know. He hasn't heard about Albino dogs until i told him about these threads. He was wondering if the White Siberian Husky was considered albino because they have a pinkish nose and eyes. but you can't really see there skin color. Is this considered albino?

Albino also occurs with merle x merle breeding. The puppies are usually put to sleep if no owner is willing to take them, and all have serious health issues. It happens in a number of dogs, border cllies, aussie, corgi's, danes, and on.

I am pretty sure that Merle to merle are not " true " albinos, they are considered " white " not having the albino charecteristics, such as no pigmentation.

As for huskies, no they are not albino or even partial albino. Some dogs have blue eyes just like some people, some horses etc. Blue eyes do not mean albino, or partial albino it only means blue eyes. But albinos do have blue or pink coloured eyes because of lack of pigment.
