Default Storms

Ugh, it's that time of year again here.. heat, humidity, and... thunderstorms!
We had some rough weather come through yesterday evening after two days of killer humidity. I wanted to make sure I got the dogs in and out before any rain came so I had been keeping an eye on the radar and was apprehensively pleased to see that it "seemed" to be staying west of us and moving to the north.. until the huge clap of thunder that scared the heck out of the dogs (and me!) and left us in the dark. Boom, just like that no power--no fans, no lights and it was so humid I thought it was going to rain indoors, ugh. Of course I had my big flashlight and two lanterns and fresh batteries; but the batteries were new in the package in the drawer. The dogs behaved much better than I had thought they would, some barking but, no real displays of terror (I think that was just me ) The hard part was getting to the drawer to get the batteries and inserting them in the lights when I couldn't see! Timi was not exactly helpful as he decided to glue himself to my leg and as he is black he doesn't stand out well in the dark. Next storm I should probably put his light up collar on him. I find it interesting that since we have had Timi, Cheynie seems to be less frightened of storms. The two of them sort of huddled by me as I was sitting on the bed loading the flashlights but didn't tremble or cry, and then lay down by the kitchen table where I sat waiting for the electric company to get busy. Progress!

We had a big lightening and thunderstorm Sunday evening. Luckily we did not lose our electricity. Right now we are waiting to see what tropical storm in the Gulf brings us...so far not much. Just hope we don't lose our electricity or have any trees come down. Our pups did pretty well during the electrical storm. Dunny is the worse, but survives fine if he can huddle up next to my husband on the couch. Luckily my husband can do a lot of his work on the computer and phone and will probably be home through Thursday which is the last day that the storm is supposed to bother us.

Oh dear, hope your electric came back on sharpish! We've had very hot humid weather too, quite unbearable at times. We are due storms this afternoon in some parts of the county, but tomorrow morning 6-8am where I am. It's very unlikely that we will loose power though. I've very pleased to here Cheynie and Timi coped with thunder okay. Also very pleased to hear you never tripped in the dark !!

Leo sounds a bit like Dunny, as long as he is close to me he's not too bad, but then again we have only had one or two short storms since I've had him.

I'm finding it hard coping with the heat and keeping the house (and office for that matter) cool. I've been walking Leo at 6am so he at least gets out once, then if its cool enough again at about 9pm.

I also got him an Aquamat cooling towel, its very good. You can get coats in it too but thought I would try the towel first to see how effective it was. Then when I tired to order the coat in his size it was out of stock. Never mind, I will wait until its available and get him one.

I've booked this afternoon off work as today apparently its going to be 31 here. Just bought two tall cooling fans to set up when I get home.

We rarely get thunder out here. What I do dread is the 4th of July fireworks. We had a couple of houses that were shooting off illegal ones last year and Rascal was terrified. We will get her harness and leash on before dark this year. If we had a thunder shirt it would help. Poor little doggy was terrified last year.

Hiya Folks well still the same regulars which is good to see and not had a cloud flare error so far hopefully this is sorted now. I too (although Iam improved on my fear of thunder storms) unless it's over head then I panic and shake. I will post a link that allows any one to track via various maps around the world in real time nice to be back and Nipper is doing well Cheers
