I know my attendance is sporadic. I have to visit my dad a lot, blah blah blah the dog ate my homework...
But it occurred to me as I was cruising the board tonight that Sadie's picture makes her look sort of like a snotty brat. Actually, that picture was taken when she was staring down a squirrel that was up in a tree. It wasn't a red carpet moment or anything. She encountered her very first possum tonight! It was hilarious. |

Never mind lol, had to edit my last post because I didn't know how to delete and I didn't want to say possums carry rabies when they're actually less likely to carry it. Also, did she catch it.

Well, I'm usually reigning her in from a delicious pile of cat poop, but her pull was more tentative on this particular occasion. So, I followed her up into a yard a bit, and she stopped cold. Then I saw it. The possum was, um, playing possum. Not moving one molecule of its body, just staring at her with huge alien eyes. So, I decided not to make a move, either. Sadie remained statue-still -- most unusual. I could just hear her brain trying to figure it out. "What the heck is this thing, anyway?" It felt like forever, but was likely only 30-45 seconds with the three of us not moving at all. The possum blinked first, and Sadie's taut little body uncoiled like a rattlesnake, tearing off into the bushes after the sluggish creature. She was fearless! "Whatever it is, I'm eating it." However, the possum was clever, and slid under a fence, eluding her. She then proceeded to bounce through the yard like an antelope on steroids while simultaneously trying to smell every inch of ground that the possum might have tread upon. She just cracked me up!
The next possum she sees will not be so lucky. Now that she knows that they are actually alive and mobile, she'll be after them. And my right arm will be separated from its socket. |

It was dark, and the first part of the movie would have been really dull until the antelope scene. I'll just have to hire a camera crew to go for walks with us.

She had me guffawing out there in the dark of night, too, Dee. Watching her trying to execute the antelope bounce and the nose-to-the-ground move at the same time was hysterical!
