Default Advice/opinion is needed about my story

Hi all,
My name is Daniel. I live in San Fransico, California and I have two Siberian Huskies, both intelligent and playful. My kids love them and they make all of us happy.

Let me first say that I am new here and not a frequent poster.
I actually logged into this forum because I was skeptical about this whole DOGTV madness and needed some opinions from the community.

Back to the story, I work full time as a consultant and my wife is a high school teacher.

Naturally, we have long periods where our dogs are left at home all alone for at least 6 hours until my wife returns home.

I'm sure some of you are familiar with the situation when you leave home and your dog doesn't let you leave, barking, pushing and scratching the front door.

Long story short, I visited the vet twice to hear his opinion on what can be done here.
on the first visit he told me to turn the TV or Radio on before I leave.
I tried it for 2 weeks but nothing changed.
on the second visit, he told me that there is a new special channel for dogs called dogtv.

I laughed and told him that first, I am no fool, and second, there is no way this stuff will work.

I invest in my huskies. I buy them quality food, give them showers with my boys every two weeks (which is great fun by the way) and overall don't care to spend money on them.

After a conversation with my wife, we decided to try DOGTV for a month with the thought that we can always cancel the subscription.

Now before I continue, let me emphasize that I am NOT related to the company in any way, not publishing or representing them and I don't really care about the channel, I only do care for my dogs.

After 3 weeks with DOGTV, something has definitely changed.
I'm still skeptical, a fact that will never change, but my dogs are calmer.
At the beginning they still had sad faces and acted the same but now they are more familiar with the content (I guess) and when we leave the house, they just walk us to the door and THEY LEAVE... (to watch TV?)

I am very pleased with this situation and I feel "safer" that I know someone is "watching them" or "educating" them when im gone.
I also feel that this is a good investment in the short run and who knows, maybe in the long run as well.

After you heard my story, I really want to hear your opinions, thoughts and if anyone here tried it as well please share your experience with me here or even PM me. Im really interested in hearing if this really works or something just changed in the way my dogs behave.

Thank you for your time,
Daniel

We did have a thread on this topic when the show was first announced where an article to it was referenced, but I don't know that anyone has actually seen it or subscribed to it:

Hi Daniel and welcome aboard your story about DogTv made me laugh while you will get a trial (free) can I ask how much would the subscription adter the free trial? There are other ways to keep your dogs unwanted behaviour at bay that won't cost a monthly subscription! Just leaving the Tv on can help I agree there are plenty of animal/dog type programmes that you can put on for free I have just seen the monthly subscription @ $4.99 which isn't too bad I suppose! You could try some nice for them to chew on like a frozen kong filled with peanut butter or something else to keep them good while you both leave the house Glad it's working for you though let us know how you get on!

welcome to the forum
Now what I am wondering is, how old are your dogs? when did the do not like being home alone start? how long have they been doing it?
Did any other behaviors of yours change?
Reason being I am trying to figure out weither it's the tv or just you guys that made the change...

What is Dog TV? Is that like Sesame street for dogs?

I would have to echo monkey's questions. It is possible that you guys made changes in your own behavior that prompted changes in theirs, so while it seems like it's connected to DogTV, it's more just a coincidence. Could it be that they are just getting older and maturing, and becoming more adjusted to what's going on? Maybe with the addition of a routine of turning on the TV before you leave, they've come to make the association, making you leaving more predictable and thus less stressful and unexpected?

Having background noise can certainly have an impact, and music and nature sound tracks have been shown to influence the mood of people as well as some animals. But just off hand, I am skeptical as you are that this TV channel would be anything special.

I guess the big question is: Have you observed your dogs ever watching the channel? You could set up a webcam to record what goes on in the room the TV is in, or you could try to spy on them through a window without them knowing. I know some dogs who will be enthralled by the TV, but it usually doesn't keep their attention for hours on end. If your huskies aren't even looking, it could just be the background noise. You could test this by leaving it on a different channel and seeing if you notice a change in their behavior.

Hi all and thank you for your kind replies.

We didnt change anything in our behavior if you guys wonder.
We keep the same schedule and there are no stress related issues in our family.

as for registration, i tried the first month free, there is a coupon going around with a discount, i highly recommend you to try it. It will help me also understand better. Maybe this is all a joke.

I used - '1monthfree' and it worked.

any other thoughts about this issue?
