![]() has anyone ever heard of this? is it true?
my sister said that if a dog has a lot of black on the roof of its mouth it means that the dog is smart. this was true for our last 3 dogs, they were smart and the roofs of their mouths were black. |

![]() I would have to say that is a old wives tale. Dogs, like people have different leaves of intelligence. It is true that some breeds are smarter then others but it really boils down to the particlar animal.
It equates to black hooves on horses are harder then white so don't buy the white hooved horses. No truth whatsoever. |

Wow! it must be true because both my lab and my golden has a black roof of their mouth and both ( to me ) are the smartest dogs ever. ![]() |

![]() ha ha ha...
our other dogs were very smart and had the black roof of mouth. this one (ruby) has her *moments* and she doesn't have much black... so i'm kinda wondering! lol (she can be dumb sometimes, but she is still a puppy!) my sister seems convinced of this (so do my parents) but i can find nothing about it online....

![]() I can't say if I believe that.
The roof of Zoe's mouth is black and she's very smart, sometimes to the point where she surprises me. But Bear's is black too and he's not too smart at all. But sometimes I wonder if it's because of his past. He was abused and so is very jumpy and not willing to learn too quick.

![]() I must agree that is nothing but old wives tale. I have Shepherds and one has a large black spot on her tongue, she is smart, but I also have some that do not that is smarter or wiser should I say? It depends how the breed u have is brought up, socialized, talked to and taken with the family most places, they soon learn to adapt and seem to learn our language, mine do.

![]() i would have to say i think the black a dogs mouth may have something to do with how smart they are. and if u ask me i think the more different breeds types a dog has in him/her the smarter the dog will be to
because my bro bought a akc lab pure breed which was the dumbest dog i have seen. the never learn anything, now my dog is vary smart and he is a mix breed and he was free. he is half pitbull/lab mix i have had so many people say they want to take him home because he is so cute he is 7yrs old right now. which is i think 7x7=49 but most people think he is only 1yr old.. i dont have to put my dog on a leash because he is so well behaved. even so the law states all dogs need to be on leash. so i carry the leash with me just in case |
