Default Grrr! Another freecycle ad

And this one from a lady I know. She was one of the first grade teachers at the old school my daughter used to attend. I even did back up daycare for Lori and can not believe I read this ad this am.

We have a 6 year old Welsh Corgi that we just don't have time to take
care of. He has lived with us since he was 6 weeks old; since then
we've had 2 children and are just much busier. He deserves a better
home with people who love him and have time to give him the attention
he needs. He is a great dog! We love him dearly, and want him to have
a good home. His name is Spike and he loves to go for walks, ride in
the car, play with kids and just lay around! His downfall is that he
does shed, but with regular bathing and brushing it's not so bad. If
you are interested, we would love to have him go to a safe, happy,
nurturing home. Please only reply if you are truly interested.
Thanks!
Lori and Todd

I don't think I would be so hard on them. I mean they are looking for a suitable home for him, not dropping him off at some shelter or leaving him on the roadside. It is sad that they no longer want the dog, but I'm glad they are trying to find a good home. Honestly, I'd rather see the dog rehomed, than have him sit at home with no walks or play time or anything.

I totally agree! What would you expect them to do? At least they are honest enough with themselves to realise they are not able to provide the kind of home they know their dog deserves! I would be far more concerned if they had just decided to dump the dog in a shelter. They are obviously looking for a good home for the pup. One that they feel will be better than what they can currently provide.

I just think it's unfair to assume the worst of people all the time. Life changes and sometimes rehoming animals is just an unfortunate part of that.

Sorry I just don't feel that generously predisposed to them based on their ad. It seems the only crime the dog committed was to shed - well what a suprise! They must have known when they took on a dog how long an average dog lives, and that they were planning to have a family. What annoys me the most is that the kids learn how disposable pets are, not what a huge commitment and responsibility for life they are. Re-home if you must, but don't claim to 'really love' the bloody dog!

I know how lives change. When my son lost his family he re-homed his two dogs... JRT and English Bulldog. He is a truckdriver who works long hours and the dogs were not getting any of the attention they used to ... my dil was a stay at home mom.

But... Those of you who are giving Lori the sympathy card may be forgetting I know Lori and Todd and watched her older daughter Katelyn before we moved. I called about Spike and Lori was very relieved he was placed and glad to be done with the hairy mess...

If you can not put up with dog hair than get a dog that is known to have hair instead of fur. If you are planning a family that will not include a dog than do not get a dog. The circumstances surrounding the rehoming of Spike were inconvience. I do have to agree that he should not be in a home where he is not longer loved and will be better off with a new family but how can you stop loving a family member after 6 years??? Breaks my heart...

It breaks my heart too... but as we all know, circumstances can change in a matter of months let alone 6 years! Plans for the future may seem clear and definite at the start but turn out not working.

I think the mention of the hair was not to explain why they're rehoming, but to illustrate that the only drawback is that he sheds. I think they were just making people aware of that fact.

I do agree that it's very sad to see a loved family pet being rehomed after such a long time, but no one can ever really know the circumstances surround other peoples lives. They obviously feel it's for the best.

I do agree that this is sad and it's a real shame they can't keep thier dog. Personally I don't think I could go through with it.

The thing that gets me is they advertised on Freecycle! Here was me thinking that was a place to get rid of old furniture or your kids old toys not a place to rehome you "beloved" pet!

I can understand that 6 years ago they may not have forseen that they could not care for their dog in the manner they used to, and I do think it's probably better for the dog to go to a home where it will have all the attention it requires, but I have never heard of people rehoming a pet on freecycle. I can't get over that
