Default Peanut Butter Treats

This is a variation I made up using the previously posted recipe (Peanut butter & banana Treats)

1 egg
1/2 cup peanut butter (I used crunchy)
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp bacon grease
1 cup whole wheat flour
Dried Blueberries (optional)

Preheat oven to 300 deg, lightly grease baking sheet. Beat together egg, peanut butter, honey and bacon grease until well mixed, stir in wheat flour.

Roll into small balls and flatten in palm before placing on baking sheet. Add blueberries as desired. Bake about 20 min until dry and golden on the edges.

JGLI, I wouldn't have thought of the bacon grease either, but it makes perfect sense.

I wanted to use real bacon crumbled up, but was getting tired and since I keep a small jar of bacon grease in the frig to use in some of my own personal cooking as flavoring I thought it would work just as well. Hey, I wonder if those bacon bits you can buy woulda worked.... just thought of that. I know when I was researching the recipes, there were all kinds of things mentioned that different folks had added to their recipes, guess you could use it as a basic dough recipe and then add things for different variations.... probably anything that your furbaby likes and is healthy for them.

Some other things I also saw mentioned were shredded cheese, pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger, parsley, chopped fresh mint leaves, dried cranberries, and applesauce. Of course you might have to increase the dry ingredients a little to compensate for the applesauce moisture..... I may do a little experimenting and refine them a little more for next year... lol Hmmmmm, maybe a business opportunity here.... rofl

They have bacon bits that are already crumbled. Not Baconbits, but something like "Real Bacon". Think I have some in the fridge...if the crumbling of cooked bacon was tedious for you and you didn't have bacon grease handy.

Edit: I thought I would add I add the bacon to my pancake mix also. It doesn't make the pancakes taste quite like bacon...just a little zesty.

Sounds very rich to me LOL But Bacon grease is very high in fat and saturated fat too so while it tastes good It's not so healthy so bacon bits is probably the WTG it's not a weight issue but more about cloging up the ateries that would worry me and in any case there's enough fat content in the the peanut butter!!!
