Default Changing diet short term

so passover is approaching, we are observant which means we cannot have any grains in the house for one week. our dog is doing well on kirklands dog food, which is not grain free.
so here's our choice, we can either board the dog for the week or change his diet.
we do know someone who boards dogs, we've used him for a day or two, its a young family with two of their own dogs, they only crate the dogs for sleeping, lots of attention, fenced in yard, etc. overall, if you had to board a dog, its a decent place.
we'd rather keep him home, but I worry about giving him a grain free diet for just one week. is changing things up like that detrimental? I feel like it just might be more stressful than sending him out.
what do you think?

If your dog does not have a sensitive stomach it should not hurt to buy a small bag of grain free dog food and feed that for the week. You could even start gradually adding some of it to the food he is eating now so he will be completely on it for the week. I think that would be better for the dog than having to board him for a week.

I agree with Kyllobernese and especially like the idea of introducing the new food by mixing it before you need to feed it alone. Much less stressful to keep him at home.

thank you both. mixing the new food is a great idea. I have about a month so I can start very gradually now. the last time we switched his food (because I learned that the food we were giving him was probably the worst stuff out there!) he pretty much didnt eat for a couple of days and then he had some very loose stools for about a week. but then he was fine. so I didnt want to put him through that twice in a short period of time but mixing might prevent that especially if I start slow.
thanks, we are much happier keeping him home
