Default Energy bar for dogs

!!!! Cheynie does NOT need this! In fact, I am half-tempted to throw some of her Blue Buffalo into my morning cereal if it would give me half her energy!

"Nestlé Purina PetCare has launched protein and carbohydrate bars for dogs, tapping National Football League quarterback Eli Manning as a spokesman.
St. Louis-based Nestlé Purina, maker of Beneful and Alpo dog food, has expanded its lineup of nutritional supplements with two new bars for dogs, Purina Pro Plan Sport PRiME and ReFuel. The pet food giant began selling the products earlier this month in specialty stores, including PetSmart and Petco.

Nestlé Purina, a unit of Swiss-based Nestlé, signed up two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning to help launch the bars in New York on Wednesday. It’s the first time the pet food maker has partnered with the Giants quarterback.

Manning said he went on hikes and runs with his dog, a 4-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Chester. “He gets a lot of activity,” Manning said in an interview.

Nestlé Purina held the “Purina Pro Plan MANning vs. DOG Challenge” in New York Wednesday afternoon, with Manning participating with dogs in physical challenges, including flying disc and speed races.

The American Veterinary Medical Association cautions pet owners to closely monitor their pets’ daily caloric intake so they aren’t overfed. Between 25 and 40 percent of dogs in the U.S. are overweight, the AVMA estimates.

Brian Zanghi, a nutrition scientist at Nestlé Purina, said the new bars were intended for dogs that were burning many calories while running or performing in agility events. The packaging includes guidance for portion size, based on the dog’s weight.

“These are bars that should be fed when dogs are active,” he said. “When you provide an extra treat, or in this case, a nutritional supplement bar, you have to take into account how many calories they’re consuming.”

That is the last thing Kris needs!! She is finally ready to go back to her running after her spay and she is taking full advantage of it. We have had snow the past few days, not a lot, probably five inches and it has also gotten colder but even so she does not mind staying outside for quite a while before her ears start to get cold and I bring her back into the house. It has been -10 (15F) all morning as the sky has cleared and the sun has come out.

Not even Roly needs one of those lol. And at -10 who needs an energy bar . . . . I'd be to busy snuggled under a duvet trying to hibernate!

LOL on all the comments! There is no way I'd even think of giving one of these to Harley. I'd rather put out my eyes.

I don't think Rascal needs any more energy either! Though she would say she is grossly underfed! We can't even walk into the kitchen without her thinking it's time for a meal!

Yeah I think that'd be unnecessary for a lot of dogs(even working ones!). They already have all the energy they need for what they do.
