Default Antlers?

Does anyone here give their dog(s) antlers as chews?

I've heard a lot about them recently, many people saying they would prefer to give their dogs antlers for chewing than any other type of 'treat'. Other than raw bones that is. Wondering if anyone gives their dogs antlers as chews?

If so, where do you buy and what is the average price?

I noticed some at my local petco and decided to try it out with my dog. I got a Large(she's a medium sized dog), this is what it looked like;

It cost $16 - Is that the average price for one that size?

My dog took to it quickly, seriously-I've never seen her that eager to have anything. Treats included{okay, well maybe except for raw carrots}.

It's been about ten minutes since she got it, and she's already kind of half way through it.

Anyway-Curious on what others opinions of antlers for dogs is, like them-dislike them?

If you give your dog them-What was your dog's reaction to them the first time you gave them one? Were they hesitant or did they take to them quickly?

I don't believe it's a proper antler if it's 'half gone' in that short amount of time... I would try one of your local independent shops. I have one ~ a foot long for 20 from my local shop and it's still going strong.

True-it seems like the half she chewed off was the 'hollow' part of it. Because the other half she hasn't even put a dent in and she's been chewing on it since I posted.

I will do as you suggested and look for local independent shops that sell them

Look around online too, in areas with large deer populations and hunting seasons they almost give them away...

Don't know where you live but my son and buddy go out every year to find dropped elk and deer racks and have come back with some really nice large ones...the kind a hunter would mount.
You could also get a hunting license and go get your own.

Little Lucy loves them. She's had both deer and elk antlers. We've lost them here at home but at my parents house its the first thing Lucy goes looking for. She will walk around with it in her mouth and it looks like she has a big cigar hanging from her mouth. It looks different than the one above.
