Default Omega 3

I've searched online and on google for the answer to this question, and it varies SO much. I want to know what the maintenance dosage would be for a healthy dog of Omega 3? Some sites (for Quinn's size) say 70mg a day, some say 500 a week. So... how do I know how much she should get? She weighs 15 pounds. I would prefer she would just eat her fish, but the silly girl won't. So, can anyone send me in the right direction to find this information? I have 1000mg pills, since everything was saying that the supplements for people are fine. I can easily mix this with peanut butter and dish it out as needed...but I have to know how much!

You can give 1000mgs per 10lbs. So 1 fish oil capsule would probably work well. Granted, I don't have a small dog but I just drop the capsule into my dog's kibble and he eats it no problem. However if you feel more comfortable, pierce it and squeeze over the food.

Human grade fish oil is just fine. I get mine buy one, get one free at Walgreens ALL the time for $8.99 I believe. It's a great buy! It's helped my dog's coat significantly.

Ok, and is this daily? Weekly? I don't know at all what the dosage for Omega 3 is. Thank you!

If your purpose is just to help improve the quality of you dog's coat, just 1 fish oil capsule a day should really, really help. Give it a few weeks before you start expecting results.

My opinion is that you should be getting plenty of omega 3 and 6 in the proper ratio from their food. i would switch foods before i gave this as a supplement

Quinn eats raw. Normally she would get her Omega 3 from eating fish, but she doesn't like fish, at all. So, a supplement will have to be the way we go for her to get this particular nutrient.

Chessie gets her omega 3 from the Welactin softgel caps. The recommended dose is one gelcap per 20 lbs of weight per day and each capsule contains 270 mg '(calculated using AOCS Ce 1e-91 method'). Another link that might be of help to you:

You can give any amount of omega 3 as long as it's not exaggerated because omega 3 are likely to be flush out by the body because they are unsaturated fats.
