Post Our dogs, and how we exercise them.

Dobermans are very active and high energy dogs, this is what we do to keep our dogs in shape.

We ride horses and they come along, they have done this with us since they were younger. They love it and can't wait to go once we go get the horses from the pasture.

Also Rudy loves to swim and Jenna likes to wade . Very good exercise for them.

We are lucky in that we live in the country and the dogs can run whenever we are outside. They are NOT allowed to run loose at all times.

What else do people do ???

I was thinking of flyball for our guys does anyone do that ?

We like to take our pup to one of the local dog parks, but the weather hasn't been very good for that recently (either too cold or too muddy). The best exercise she's been getting recently has been playing with a friend's puppy (about four months old) until the two of them drop. Beyond that, she gets walked twice a day unless the weather is particularly bad. We play with her a lot indoors as well, and she's not opposed to running laps around the living/dining rooms when she needs to burn off some excess energy.

Get a friend with a dog, let them play in the backyard for 30 mins, and your all set

But that doesn't quite stimulate their brain, so do some tricks or shape new behaviors at home

I also do Agility with my dogs.

we go to the dog park every day for about an hour plus a morning walk. On rainy days, she gets to go to her friend's house to play, or she comes over to ours. We have a very high energy pup!

an afghan hound is ready to run at all times but as a sight hound can never be off lead anywhere. not even from the house to the backyard...you may never see your sight hound again. a great example is vivi, the whippet, who was lost at kennedy airport after winning an award of merit westminster. i would love for mia to go galloping with me after the horses but she is quicker than they are and i am afraid we would never see her again. we give her lots of outdoor time in the fenced yard and lots of walking time to keep up with her energy level. if they are no exercised sufficientlythey are more apt to run off.

I've got 2 "downtown dogs". They live for their twice daily walks throughout the neighbourhood or to one of the many dog parks near our apartment.

We're lucky to live in a city that has many greenspaces. And once a year we go on vacation "for the dogs" by renting a cottage up north for a week and taking the dogs hiking every day. They absolutely love it.

I wish I lived in the country - if only for the dogs.
