The breeds that your dog is sounds like a great agility dog. Good luck with your dog and agility Welcome to the forums and glad to have you here

Nope, in 4H you can show any kid of breed, AKC or not. Most of the dogs in our dog class are mixed breeds. My dog Lilly is a golden retriever/labrador mix. It's really fun and once you get into 4H you will be gald you did. The classes are really cheep too. For the whole summer in my county is only $25 and I do agility, showmanship and obedience. But the only thing is you have to be careful is the trainers. Some can be really harsh but I switched counties because of it.

Here are some Maryland sources for dog training. I'd start by contacting some of these organizations.

www.marylandinfo.com/Pets_and_Animals/Dog_Training/

Most established dog training clubs either include agility classes or will know who does in your area.

Good luck! I want to start agility training in the next year or so with my dog too. It looks like lots of fun.

Kinko, I know a girl that is in MA 4-H and competes in agility. Unfortunately, AKC does not allow mixed breeds, but there's always NADAC, CPE, UKC, and USDAA. I personaly love NADAC, CPE, adn UKC.

www.apdt.com might also list some positive reinforcement trainers in your area.

When finding a trainer, ask to first sit in and watch one of their classes. You want to make sure that the students and trainers are treating the dogs with kindness and respect, teaching through the use of treats and toys, and that they are not forcing any dogs over obstacles.

www.cleanrun.com is a great agilty site. It also has a magazine which is amazing and very helpful to all competitors in agility. There's also many many more great books on agility training that can be extremely helpful. And fo course, videos are even more helpful. If you go to the youtube website and search for dog agility training videos, you are sure to find some!

Goodluck.
