Talking Para Agility for dogs!

After the discussion about 3 legged dogs and cancer and seeing the video posted by JGLI, I had this idea. Front legged amputees would compete against others of the same type and rear legged ones would also compete with the same type.
(I have no idea if a rear legged amputee can compete). Dogs have to much fun in agility, why not give them a chance?

Neat Idea. Here are some videos of 2 legged dogs that I'm sure would love it.

I'm not an expert on this and I could be wrong but, Wouldn't agility put more stress on the dog's other legs(which could cause damage or issues to those legs?). Unless you alter the course(or don't use a full agility course) and do things that wouldn't put stress on the other legs.

I was planning on doing agility or flyball with Miya, but after finding out she had problems with her hips I was advised against it(from someone who does it with their dogs).

I know of one dog that lost one of it's leg and before that it was actively doing fly ball and still wanted to do it even after it lost it's leg, but it's owners were worried it could get damaged/hurt if it continued to do it, so after one more time they retired the dog from flyball.

I would have to agree with Ama, they are already putting more stress on their other legs if they have lost one and as much as they may love to do Agility I think they could possibly cause more damage. The obstacles in Agility like the teeter, dog walk, A-frame require a lot of balance and coming down the A-frame with only one front leg would not be good at all. That is where Susie injured her shoulder and she had two good legs.

In addition, NADAC (North American Dog Agility Council) allows participation in agility:

"28) My dog is a canine amputee. Can he still participate in NADAC trials?
Yes, your dog may run in any classes that do not contain jumps or contact obstacles. The classes your dog is eligible to enter are tunnelers, weavers and hoopers."

I think maybe the dogs missing a front leg can maybe run safely. The dogs missing rear legs maybe putting to much stress on their bodies. Anyway a vet should clear a dog for agility too.
Wonderful videos JGLI!
