Default Fun trial

Had the fun trial today and it was lots of fun. Kris was so excited by all the people and strange dogs that it was hard to keep her focus. Her heeling was not exactly what it should have been. At one point they threw a dumbbell in the ring next to us and she was all for running over after it and did a little leaping around but came back when I told her to heel.
Her Figure 8 was really good.

When it came to the off-lead heeling, the judge asked me if I wanted to do it and was so surprised when I said yes. Kris actually heeled better off lead as she had settled down and did not want to leave my side. In the Stand for examination she asked me if she could go over her and I said no problem. Kris stood rock solid and never moved a muscle. On the recall she came racing to me but instead of sitting in front, she went right to heel.

She did the long Sit perfectly but not so good on the long Down even though she has been really good at it in practice. I took her outside after-wards and she really had to pee so that was my fault. It was great practice and I was pleased with her progress. Remmy did a couple of runs in Agility and did really well.

Afterwards they gave a Demonstration of IPO training with some German Shepherds which I had never seen other than on YouTube.

Sounds like fun was had by all! That's great! Would love to see videos of Kris and Remmy in trials.

Didn't realize that IPO training was considered a sport, so surfed the net. Found this interesting (at least to me) article. Protection Training (IPO) | Denise Fenzi

One of the dogs that was in the demonstration is a dog we train with, she is a really well trained dog and does regular Obedience with us.

They retrieve over a 6 foot A-frame (it is only around 5 feet for Agility) and over quite a high jump. While one dog is performing, the next dog is left in a down stay part way up the ring by itself. That is in the Obedience part, not when they are working on the sleeve work. Not something I would be interested in doing but interesting to watch.
