Default Agility practice

Had our drop-in Agility practice today, the first since the 23rd of November. It had been staying right around zero but of course it went down to almost -20C (0F) last night but did warm up to -10 which is between 15-20F outside but in the unheated arena it was probably colder than that.

It wasn't too bad if you did not have to stand around. We set up four different "stations" so you could practice on one, then move on to the next. It works better when it is cold as you don't have to stand around waiting your turn. For example one was a tunnel, teeter and a jump, the next was A-frame with a tunnel underneath and a jump. The third one was a jump and the weaves and we moved the jump around to get them entering the weaves from different directions.

There were the three Flat Coats and one Border Collie, and the small dogs were Remmy, Ecko (my sister's Rat Terrier) and a Papillon. We are going to have it the next two Sundays unless it is a lot colder out.

You Canadians are tough birds for sure.

Flat coated retrievers are beautiful dogs:

and I agree with Canadians being tough! Those temperatures would have me trying to talk my dog into sharing a quilt with me or else I'd be trying to run the agility course myself to stay warm!

We've been lucky too to have a bunch of open classes to jump into. Last Friday it was - 30. This has kept Calla sane. We worked on pushes and working from a distance. Making sure she really new what each piece of equipment is.

I did leave Kris home in her crate as felt it would get too cold for her in the Van so she missed out on her play with the big dogs. One of the Flat Coats had just come into season but Remmy was really good and even though he was sniffing the air a lot, he paid attention to me. He was the only male there other than their Male Flat Coat.

You can keep the cold in Canada! I prefer it warm enough to rain and not ice

Where we train they have a little bit of heat. Didn't seem to do much so Calla was running with her fuzzy blanket on. I have to bring her bed to sit on in between runs, otherwise her paws get to cold and she shuts down on me.
Love that I come home with a sane dog. That's somewhat ready to relax.
