Default Agility problem - in correct forum

hi, from new members section;

background: started agility simply cos there was a great trainer/competitor in town and I wanted to learn how to train a dog doing anything (never heard of agility) using more modern methods - long story short I really enjoyed what I learned on my very smart and athletic but medium drive adult dog. trainer left to a new job before I could compete.

fast forward - added a crazy high drive dog to the emerging pack, disregarding the foundation I previously learned under supervision of my former trainer I hit upon the genius idea to utilise the dogs mad drive for the ball to put a jump in the path/trajectory of the thrown ball.

worked a treat as a pup on low jumps (for safety) stupid dog would motor full speed and pop over this small obstacle in the way while KEEPING EYES ON BALL AT ALL TIMES.

I think some of you might know where this is heading, anyhoo at 2.5 years old the drivey little puppy is now a power athlete with no sense of self preservation. also has extreme ball obsession.

put all this together I have a dog that does not drive for jumps per se but runs full speed at/into/over them looking backwards for the ball.

complete trainer error of a nice dog.

punishing me here won't fix the problem, how do I fix it??

First, bannish the ball... NO MORE EVER ball...
and then start over... That is what I would do, you have to reteach her how to do them correctly. Back to basics, you will have to find another motivator, and build from there.. <3

Good luck! and pics please

if you mean don't use the ball for agility then unfortunately I must agree. if you mean banish the ball completely to lower the obsession then I don't think I could do that to my dog, he loves his stupid ball more than he loves me I am sure.

I don't do still pics (boring), have a ton of vids, what would you like to see?

not sure where yr coming from with this but assuming yr requests are coming from the right place;

this jump is much deepr and rougher than it looks in the vid, dog foobars himself on it and just got back up like nothing happened and did it again.

some more natural jumps;

some random drive after a mega-hike;

but don't be fooled, this dog will put holes in you right quick;

Wow! The zoomie vid had me laughing. The first vid kind of scared me. I'd be afraid my dog would miss and fall in.
