Today was our first class in the New Year. It is the second group of classes I have had them in.
Second Foundation class: Lucy did some more practice running the channel weaves, then we had three jumps and practiced front and rear crosses. There was just Lucy, her sister Liza and two big dogs, a Doberman and a Collie cross so we got lots of individual attention. I was glad to see that the two dogs from our last class that were dog aggressive did not return. Advanced Handlers Class: Remmy's class we did weaves to the tunnel and practiced front and rear crosses. In his class there was just Remmy, Mikey my sister's dog, a miniature Poodle, a Papillon and the instructors Flat Coated Retriever. Never try and run Agility with big winter boots on! I was trying to keep up with Remmy, tripped and did a face plant. Never hurt myself but hate when that happens. At least the weather co-operated and it was just below zero. |

I'm glad to hear the classes went so well but I can understand why there isn't a video of your "graceful" move :-) I'm usually good for at least one or two 'graceful' moves myself in the winter and that's just walking in boots; I don't think I would even attempt running in them!

LOL JGLI! I for one, do "baby" steps in the snow.... running would never be an option for me... and agility in zero degrees??? More power to ya' Kyllobernese! I'm glad your classes went well, except for the face plant. I can't wait to see your next update.

I can imagine running in snow boots would be really, really hard. Congrats on the classes. It sounds like fun!!

You are much hardier than I! lol. I've been in Oregon so long that besides moss I don't think I could take really cold weather. Below freezing is considered REALLY cold here

One thing I am having a problem with (if you can call it a problem) is that the instructor wants us to be able to send them down the weave channel without going with them. Her Flat coat is ball obsessed so she can just send him, throw the ball and he does the weaves.
Lucy is more focussed on treats and so far, no matter what I throw, she is not interested in running after it. She runs straight down the channel really fast but then wants to come to me for a treat. She has one toy that she likes to play tug with but I don't know how to get her focused on it when there are treats around. Do you think sending her out to get it and bringing it to me for a treat would work? Not bringing it to me, no treat? I know running a set of 12 poles with Remmy without me going at least partway alongside is a problem and I want to be sure I get it right with Lucy. It does not help that with the winter weather we cannot practice anything outside. |
