Default Taking your dog to the park.

hey all,

yesterday i took princess for a walk then we stopped by the park.. where the swings are, slides ect. usually there are a lot of kids but i guess they were still in school. I went on the swing and swung with princess after that i put her down so i can REALLY go hight. WOw its been so long i have not been on these. I told princess to sit stay and of course she did looking at me and everything around her. I swing soooo hight. good old days. after that I decided to go to the baby slide. not me of course hahah for princess. i wanted to see if she would go down the slides. since there was not any kids around there i wanted to take the chance and see if she would go down. i put her up the stairs told her too climb up the step and then went on the ladder side i was telling come on princess you can do it. and then she put one paw down then the other and weeeeee she SLIDED down. i was shock she never did it. that was AWESOME. Princess went down the slide about 3-4 times. i was a bit sad that i didn't have my camera, so i went home got my camera and went back with her. To bad it was packed with kids and moms. so i will take her this morning it was sooo cute. Does your dog go down the slide? or any park toys?

Roly loves slides, at one time you couldn't keep him off them, as soon as we get any where near them on our walks, he'd be off. Three of our regular walks had slides on them. These days their is only a slide on one walk near the boating lake and they changed the layout and now dogs are not allowed in the play area (quite rightly really). Also he is getting on in age so maybe not such a good idea now. Maybe I will take him where there is a slide and see if his reaction is the same

You pretty much get shot for taking a dog anywhere near even an empty child's playground here in NZ - it's a HUGE no no, and you would be in for a significant fine if caught.

Most of our parks areas where there are kids playgrounds are zoned the same way - large 'no dog under penalty bla bla bla'.

Even without the bylaws and zoning and restrictive signs, I wouldn't ever think about taking a dog into a kids playground area to play on the equipment - sorry, it's just something that wouldn't even occur to me.

Playgrounds are for kids, occasionally for adults being kids..

Dogs need their own kind of 'playground equipment' - large rocks to pee against, fire hydrants, water and mud to play in and the occasional sea gull to herd...

The last time I tried to play on kids equipment I had to have my knee worked on by a physical therapist for 6 weeks! But the good news is, if we ever get the expected Michigan winter my husband told me they used to have, I will be out on my skis with my dog. That is so much fun for him and it will be even funner when I get better at it and we can really fly!
