Default Oscar's first Agility place!

Not been able to be around for a while but in case some of old are interested - my lovely Oscar and I entered our first proper Agility show recently. I tried a couple of years ago but it was far too soon and we were both too inexperienced so Oscar got a bit silly.

I was just aiming to finish the course with my dog but to my absolute surprise we ended up in the placings and Oscar has a lovely 4th place rosette. We got 5 faults for 'refusal' (but it wasn't really a refusal it was me giving his dogwalk command slightly too late so he overshot and we had to go back). The rest was perfect and at the finish line he ran to me and boinged up (he knew he did a good job). If we hadn't had those 5 faults, we may well have won

I can't put into words how proud of him I am, not bad for the dog that was called 'untrainable' by his previous owners and had a habit of going a bit 'deaf'. Plus, the ring only had a string around it, no fence, nothing and 3 other rings with activity on all sides.

I missed the entry for most of the other summer season shows this year but we're entering a select few over the winter season and all being well, next summer we can hit the circuit properly.

Our trainer got a Silver medal at the World Open Agility Championships recently and has come back with lots of really great handling knowledge and is working us hard and we are learning so much about technique and precision, so i'm really excited about where we'll be next year - all being well with Oscar's fitness as he's about 8 years old now.

From hooligan shelter dog, to a placing agility dog - proving you can definitely teach old(er) dogs new tricks We also do Cani-X with him now as well, which he loves!

Here's my handsome boy in action

CONGRATS Mel!!! Oscar looks great! I've been wondering where you've been. You must be proud of Oscar, and of course you should be very proud of yourself. You too an "untrainable" rescue, gave him a forever home, and look at him now. WAY TO GO!!!!

Huge congratulations to you and Oscar! As you know, it's not all about the ribbons but more about the journey, and it sounds like the two of you are enjoying quite the Journey together! Of course it's always nice to have some colorful ribbons to brighten the way.

Great Job!

How old is Oscar? I've wanted to do this with Sadie but never seem to find the time but still interested.
