Default Chute Crash!!!

Asher had a bad chute crash at the agility trial this weekend. I had sent him to the chute, and of course he was running full speed. As he entered the chute, I turned to go at a 90 degree angle to the weave poles - our next obstacle. I only saw Asher exit the chute out of my peripheral vision. I heard the crowd gasp, and in a split second, Asher was on his feet making the weave entrance. However he was not able to old onto the poles, and popped out.

I called him to me and slowly gaited him back toward the beginning of the poles, but I did not like his gait in his hind end. I pulled him. Outside the ring, I massaged him and gaited him for several experienced exhibitors. He was fine, and later that day he took First in Time2Beat.

Here are the scary chute pics.

Here you can see Asher beginning to exit the chute sideways. He looks like he's thinking, "This can't end well." He is going VERY fast.

Here Asher is sliding out of the chute.

The good news is that the AKC has changed the chute regs to a shorter chute, so these old longer chutes will soon be replaced, making it safer for the dogs.

This isn't a chute pic, but an A frame pic. It shows Asher umping over the apex of the A frame - usually the most desired behavior for the apex.

OMG agility! Thank God Asher is ok. Those pictures are just down right scarey. Kudos to you for pulling him and making sure he was ok. Give Asher a big hug from me!

That is really scary, thank goodness he was alright. They have shortened up the chute in the AAC and I think it really helped. I know Susie got tangled in the longer chute a few times.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. Asher is doing great with no signs of issues from the crash. We practiced yesterday, and he was in fine shape. I'm looking forward to the shorter chutes now!
