Cool First Titles

Ion just earned his first title today. I am soooo proud of him. There are not words enough to describe the feelings. It's a stepping stone in our journey. I recall when Parker earned his RN how proud I was for turning a show dog into a performer and he went on to earning his RE. My first dog to title was Ash (who got his first title at Parker's first show) how very proud I was of him... and now, he's earned 4 total working on a substantial one (RAE)!!

Thought it might be fun to share our experiences as handlers about the first titles our dogs have received.

Here's to titles we start with one and keep on building from that foundation!

Grats!! It's fun to see the baby dogs earn their firsts. Asher has four firsts left at his ump height. His first QQ. His first MACH. His first National's qualifier. And his first TQX. All are very hard, and the last two I'm still not sure we can attain. But it's all good fun trying!!

Aslan has one first left that I can think of now. His first PACH.

But its fun getting all the firsts in. The first CGC. The first trial. The first Novice title. It continues, but as you go on, it takes longer to get thoset firsts. Like Ash's RAE...10 QQs take a few shows.

Precisely! I have 6 more QQ to go there, but it's worth it. And I can tell by that happy tail he's lovin' it! Hubby nearly cracked up when I did the Spiral today as he watched Ashenpaw's tail. Everytime I delivered the turn command his tail went nuts. He adores his cone work.

Ion's first title has me very proud. It shows that we're coming together as a team. And I admit that the judges even at the Novice level of Rally are getting more strict (something I am in full support of!) As our judge said (paraphrased as I can't remember the precise words) 'today we're competing, we're being judged, we get a title here, it SHOULD mean something. It's not just coming out and being handed a ribbon for participating'. I'm glad that is happening to a sport I love. The fun is still there while the standards are being brought up to par.

Interesting about the tougher udging. It is way past due in Novice. I was wondering because you said Ion got a point for forging after a heel fast slowed to normal. When I watched, it was nothing. But if they're getting tougher, then maybe a point off was in store.

Asher's lucky he got his RN before they got tough. While he took placements with all three Qs, it was one ugly ride!

LOL! Another part that had me wondering if it weighed in was that I had been in the ring prior in Excellent and Advanced with Ash's perfect and near perfect runs, so they knew what I could do. Granted, only Ion's run should have been factored. But overall, she seemed to be judging pretty fair across the board.

I had noticed that Excellent and Advanced were getting more lined up with obedience standards--not so much in commands but in positions. It has trickled down to them expecting more at the Novice B levels for certain, Novice A still seems a bit forgiving... but given it's for REALLY green handlers and dogs and one wouldn't want to scare them clean away it is understandable. Honestly today was the first trial I had a judge instruct us on the Honor to return around behind the dog. Normally there was no instruction on how, just when. Ash was fine with it, since we do that return in all three positions, but it was still a new detail.
