Default Can't win 'em all

Took Ash up to a Rally trial today for another RAE leg... by the thread title I think you can guess something happened...

First there was our Excellent run! The course was hard and the judge very precise (which they should be at this level!). It's always tough when they start with the Backwards 3-steps. Ash struggled and we had to repeat--there went our 3 points. We got 97 and took 1st place. The other placings were a 3-way tie at 94. VERY proud of Ash here!

Then came the Advanced run. We had a nice start, however at the second station which was the broad jump something happened and he didn't clear it properly. This is unusual for him as we work it regularly and unfortunately the angle is not one on the video that can show me what happened. Ash landed on the board which meant an immediate NQ. We continued anyway, despite my heart sinking (there were several NQ's for THIS reason alone at this level). Ash surged forward on me and forged at the serp which dinged us some points (not really relevant as we were already out anyway), then he popped his sit on the sit/down/sit. It was an off run for whatever reason. I look at it this way-- we have nailed 14 out of 15 runs, we were bound to have a glitch at some point! He got lots of lovin', and we have plans to get out there again real soon for another shot at the legs.

Draco, your dogs are top dogs in our book! Ash looked great! Big deal, he had a bad run. He's a winner for sure! Thanks for posting the runs. I for one, love watching your dogs. The more posts, the merrier.

LOL! Yup, that be right! We're not perfect and that's ok. It was a seriously tough run, and I ENJOYED the challenge. It made his Excellent run feel that much more like an accomplishment... and the Advanced more acceptable when it didn't come to fruition. A success rate of 14/15 is not bad at all!

Precisely. He was happy, his tail was wagging, and I think he tried to brush off the jump... but I wonder if that's what had him twitchy about the rest of that run. Like he was trying overly hard to make-up for it. I know he put his best paw forward... it just didn't land right. He's an awesome boy, and he had a great time out there. Without the botched jump we would have easily qualified somewhere in the 90's. Sooo... next time.

Exactly! That tail of his never stopped. He loves every moment, which is why I love watching your videos. Happy, happy, dog!
