Default Agility trial

Well, we are off this weekend for a three day outdoor trial. I will be going with my sister and her dog and staying in their fifth-wheel trailer. I have both Remmy and Kiska entered and she has her dog, Mikey, entered also.

Remmy has lots of classes, one on Friday night, five on Saturday and four on Sunday. Kiska has one on Saturday and two on Sunday. My sister has a total of seven classes in the three days.

Should be an entertaining weekend. Just hope our weather changes as we have had one thunderstorm after another and Kiska hates the thunder and just shivers and shakes. Can't really blame her as we had a couple of claps of thunder that literally shook the house. In between the temperature shoots up to close to seventy (20 C) then drops down to just above freezing at night.

Wow! That's a fully packed weekend. Good luck and safe travels! We are having an unusual heat spell here. It's 103 today. We have all kinds of storm warnings up, along with the possibility of hail. Scooter is not real happy with storms either, so I can relate. Hope all goes well this weekend for you.

You do have a full run packed weekend. Have a great time, and let us know how much fun you had when the weekend is done.

I'll be out again (third weekend in a row) for a three day show. I have Aslan and Asher entered in three runs each day, but I think I may not run Aslan much. He achieved what I wanted him to at the Regular ump height last weekend, and now I'll be moving him to Preferred. But it was too late to put him in the new class for this weekend.

It will be in the upper 90s here this weekend with humidity. I'm expecting heat indexes well into the 100s. A real dangerous situation. However there are cabins on the site where the horse arena and trial is going to be held, so my dogs will be in the a/c because I rented a cabin for this particular reason. I feel sorry for everyone else though, and hope we don't have any heat stroke victims.

I wish I could trial more. A couple of weekends ago I got to run Maddie in USDAA DAM Team trial. Her team qualified and she won steeplechase at 22" class! I have two more interviews this week. Get a job, get to trial!
Good luck on your weekend outings.

Just saw on the weather forecast that it will be around 90 degrees where the trial is being held, hope they are wrong! The weather has been so changeable around here that I put off clipping Remmy and Kiska down short and I may regret it.

Aussies,

I hope you get work ASAP and can return to agility trials as often as you'd like.

Well, we just arrived home. It did turn out to be really hot and it was really hard on the dogs. Kiska, in her two Jumper classes had clean runs but lost out on time. Was really pleased with her as I know the speed will come as she gets more confident.

Remmy got a Q and first place in Advanced Starter, but his speed in the other classes was not his best and we had a few errors. He just does not do as well when it is so hot and I can't blame him. I have another two day trial at the end of June which could also end up being hot but will just have to wait and see. I will be going to that trial by myself as my sister can't go.

Had a good time, it is nice area and they have a fenced in park to let the dogs have a run in so they don't need to be on a leash the whole time.

Good to hear you and the dogs had a fun time. I can imagine the heat and humidity would take quite a toll on dogs when they compete. In the heat of summer when the temperatures and the humidity are so high here, most dogs (and people!) aren't very anxious to take longer walks during the day and on bad days many of us wait until the evening for the longest walk of the day. I had even given thought to purchasing a chillybuddy!

Grats on a good time and your Q!!! It was hot here at this weekend's agility trials with temps in the upper 90s and heat indexes into the 100s. It caused a lot of the dogs to run under course time, and some wouldn't run at all!! They can relate to your speed issues in the heat.

My Aslan ran his last run in regular height agility (12" for him) this weekend. I'm moving him down into the Preferred class usually populated by the Grizzled Veterans. It's a bit of an emotional move as it is a nod to his advancing age. He went out with a bang with a Double Q and a First and Second Place on his last day. I'm working on a video with clips from Aslan's last two weekends at 12" coming soon.

Asher had an exciting run off for First place in umpers with Weaves. He ran the fastest in the run off but dropped a bar, so our good friend who ran clean beat us, which is perfectly fine. His dog and Asher are so evenly matched in speed, it's a bit eerie. We may have run offs again in the future. The crowd got into it and cheered us on, making it even more fun. I have video of this Q and will post it some time in the future.
