Default Sled Dog Races

This coming weekend is the Annual Sled Dog Races in our area. We haven't had a lot of snow but it is snowing today so hope we get more by the weekend. Our weather has warmed up from our 15 - 20 below which is nice for the spectators but not as good for the dogs.

It is being held the same place as last year which is alongside the two lakes. It is nice as you can see the dogs leave and also see them partway around the lakes. The other place they had it at you would just see them leave, then would not see them till they finished.

They come from all over to compete and have a lot of different classes plus the ski-joring with one and two dogs. They also usually have a fun pulling contest for anybody who wants to try it with their dogs.

That sounds like a lot of fun. Where abouts is this event? I'd like to go if it's not too far

The other day when it was icey here, Lucy pulled me a ways on the ice! Not bad for a 37 lb. mutt!

The Races are in the Interior of B.C. It has been snowing all day so we have about five inches of new snow and it is still coming down. Stayed just below freezing all day.

Is this televised or posted on youtube afterward? I would love to see it.

I didn't get to the Sled Dog Races yesterday. We had a blizzard on Friday while I was at my sisters and when I came home, I got stuck halfway up my driveway. It was really wet snow (more like the Coast snow) which we do not usually get up here. It was a combination of the snow being so deep my Van was dragging bottom and even with studded snow tires, it packed and turned to ice.

Spent most of yesterday, digging and packing the snow down so I could get back down the driveway onto the road. Usually my brother-in-law plows my driveway but his machine broke down and is just getting fixed. He brought his 4-wheel drive truck over and drove up and down the driveway to pack the snow down after I got the Van out of the way. It snowed all night and is still snowing but I should be able to make it over to the Races today. If I step off my pathway, the snow is above my knees.

Something I would love to see some day, given my deep appreciation for fast, powerful, athletic dogs who can do their jobs and do them with joy.
